One week after Super Bowl LIV, a whole new season is set to begin when the XFL kicks off on Saturday. Obviously, not too many of us are familiar with the teams in the XFL or how things are going to play out. Let’s take a closer look at all four games for XFL Week 1.

2020 XFL Week 1 Odds, Preview & Picks

Seattle Dragons at DC Defenders

At first glance, the Defenders might aptly have one of the better defenses in the XFL. Safety Matt Elam and defensive end Sam Montgomery were both All-Americans in college while the DC linebacking core is loaded with guys that got a look in the NFL. That group could make it difficult for quarterback Brandon Silvers, who’s a largely unknown commodity after playing his college ball at Troy. The Dragons also have a somewhat underwhelming set of skill players. DC, on the other hand, has Malachi Dupre and Eli Rogers to catch passes from Cradle Jones. If this game becomes a track meet, the Dragons could be left behind.

XFL Week 1 Pick: Defenders -6.5

LA Wildcats at Houston Roughnecks

Quarterback Josh Johnson holds the key for the Wildcats. He’s a little more than a year removed from starting games in the NFL and has spent the last decade bouncing around from one NFL team to another as a backup and practice-squad player. However, LA’s roster overall is a little underwhelming. Houston, on the other hand, should have a good balance between running backs Andre Williams and De’Angelo Henderson and wide receivers like Sammie Coates and Cam Phillips. On the other hand, quarterback Connor Cook isn’t exactly a proven commodity. But the Roughnecks appear to be strong at the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball, which could give them an edge.

XFL Week 1 Pick: Roughnecks -5

Tampa Bay Vipers at New York Guardians

Offensively, the Vipers look stacked. Aaron Murray is a good fit for Marc Trestman’s pass-happy offense, especially with playmakers like Stacy Coley and Tanner McEvoy. The backfield is loaded as well with Mack Brown and former college quarterback Quinton Flowers, who should get some chances to throw the ball as well. The Guardians have some potential difference-makers on defense, but it may not be enough to slow down Murray and company. On the other side of the ball, New York will rely on Matt McGloin, who doesn’t exactly have an intimidating set of skill players around him.

XFL Week 1 Pick: Vipers -4

St. Louis Battle Hawks at Dallas Renegades

The Renegades are the betting favorites to win the XFL, but the Battle Hawks could prove troublesome for them in Week 1. While not a proficient passer, quarterback Jordan Ta’amu can create problems with his legs. St. Louis also has a loaded backfield with Matt Jones and Christine Michael. Defensively, the Battle Hawks might have the deepest and most talented secondary in the XFL. Keep in mind that Dallas quarterback Landry Jones might miss the season opener because of a knee injury. The Renegades could be forced to lean more on their running game with Cameron Artis-Payne and Lance Dunbar.

XFL Week 1 Pick: Battle Hawks +6.5
