NCAAB Spartans vs Buckeyes Odds Preview

Written by on February 22, 2016

This Tuesday, the #6 Michigan State Spartans (22-5) head to Columbus to take on the Ohio State Buckeyes (18-10) in Big Ten action. The Buckeyes are coming off a 65-62 win at Nebraska, while the Spartans knocked off the Wisconsin Badgers, 69-57. Both the Buckeyes and Spartans are in the thick of the Big Ten race, just a couple games back of Indiana. Find out more about the march madness hoops online lines anytime soon.

Why should you bet on the Buckeyes?

The Buckeyes are teetering on the edge of the NCAA Tournament conversation, and they are gutting their way off the bubble one win at a time. In their overtime victory at Nebraska, the Buckeyes weren’t making any shots on the floor, and they had seen a double-digit lead vanish in the second half, and so they went to overtime. It fell to JaQuan Lyle to put the team on his back, and he scored all 19 of his points in the second half and overtime (with six in the extra frame). He made a layup with 31 seconds left in overtime to break a tie, and Ohio State would hold on to win its fourth straight game and sixth in the last eight. Now Ohio State faces Michigan State twice (home and away) and hosts Iowa, meaning that they still have some hard work to do. However, the momentum they have built will serve them well.

Why should you put your money on Michigan State?

Michigan State has sputtered a bit in Big Ten play — which is why they were in eighth place in the conference before tipoff. However, by completing their sixth win in their last seven games, they entered that four-way tie for fourth after the win. Even though Wisconsin had beaten Michigan State at home, the Spartans returned the favor, led by the play of Denzel Valentine, who poured in 24 points but also had 10 assists and seven boards. Eron Harris had 10 points and Bryn Forbes had 17 for the Spartan effort. Tom Izzo’s teams have a way of coalescing late and then playing strong through the conference tournament and into the NCAA bracket as well. I like them to douse the momentum of an impressive Ohio State team on the road.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

I like Michigan State to head to Ohio State and come out with a gutty win, 78-73.
