2018 Wimbledon Women’s Semifinals Betting Prediction

Written by on July 11, 2018

Just as I say how crazy the 2018 Wimbledon Women’s draw has been, all 4 favorites win. All 4 girls left have dominated for the most part of the tournament and seem rather deserving to be here at this point. Ostapenko was probably the most dominant yesterday, but no one girl really stood out to me as the one to beat.

2018 Wimbledon Women’s Semifinals Betting Prediction

Jelena Ostapenko (+140) vs Angelique Kerber (-165)

Ostapenko is a young talent that seems to have really found her groove recently. Ostapenko can hit every shot and I think that is what this match will come down to. I really like Ostapenko at plus-money here because of the way they are both playing. Kerber is playing defense and has been winning in 2 sets by a thread the last 2 matches. Kerber has been controlled by her opponent in each of the last 2 matches second set and I think Ostapenko can capitalize on the control.Ostapenko can hit shots that even the best defense cannot return and I think if she can get control on most points, she will take this match. Kerber is much more experienced, but Ostapenko hasn’t been bothered by the spotlight so far and I don’t think this stage is too big for her.I haven’t been impressed with Kerber recently, as she seems to be getting by on her opponents’ mistakes. Bencic could’ve easily taken the second set multiple times and looked to have the momentum going into the third set until a few unforced errors kept her from getting there. It was a similar story against Kasatkina as well. I just think Kerber is getting a little too much credit with the odds and think this is more or less a pick’em matchup where I would slightly lead Ostapenko anyways. I love the Ostapenko odds here and even think taking her at longer odds to win 2-0 isn’t the worst idea. If Ostapenko is on, I think she could really do damage here.

Julia Goerges (+275) vs Serena Williams (-345)

In their last match, neither one was particularly impressive. I think Goerges has really gotten here rather easily compared to the other 3 girls here. Goerges faced Bertens to get here, who had beaten two solid opponents to get to the quarterfinals. Goerges just overwhelmed Bertens with power and Bertens didn’t stand a chance after her serve was broken in the second set.Serena Williams is the favorite at the 2018 Wimbledon Semifinals.Serena should have no problem with breaking someone like Goerges for the most part and I think that is the key to Goerges’s game. I think this match, coming off of a day of rest, will be much easier for Serena than the last match. The last match, Serena got off to a slow start, losing the first set, but then seemed to pick up the intensity during the next 2 sets and seems to cruise. I think that set loss was a wake-up call to Serena, which should do her well moving forward. I like Serena to win here in straight sets, but if she doesn’t, it will be due to a first set loss.Serena is the better player but has shown starting struggles since coming back from pregnancy. She’s not as sharp as she used to be and sometimes her first set is a little sloppy. My favorite possible bet would probably be live betting Serena to win the second set no matter what the odds will be, but I’ll take Serena here to get to the 2018 Wimbledon final.
