United States vs Trinidad & Tobago 2018 World Cup Qualifier Odds

The United States men’s national team take their next step toward qualifying for World Cup 2018 in Russia when Trinidad & Tobago come to American soil on Thursday night. The US absolutely need all three points out of this qualifier. Given that the Soca Warriors have not scored a single goal against the United States in more than 20 years, the Americans have to be considered heavy favorites, but soccer is one of those sports with a minuscule margin for error. All of the pressure is on the Yanks — will they take care of business? Or will they fall into even deeper trouble in the Hexagonal because they looked ahead to their Sunday qualifier down in Mexico City?

Why shoud you bet on the United States?

Back in November, when the United States opened qualifying play with a home loss to Mexico and a loss in Costa Rica, things looked grim — and U.S. Soccer showed then-coach Jurgen Klinsmann the gate, bringing in Bruce Arena. The Americans responded with a 6-0 thrashing of Honduras and then settled for a 1-1 draw in Panama. However, now they sit well behind Mexico and neck-and- neck with Honduras, Panama and Costa Rica for the last two automatic slots for CONCACAF. The draw that the United States had against Venezuela showed that the defense still has issues — and that Arena wasn’t the golden solution that many had thought. They definitely have some work to do to gain the faith of their fans on Thursday night.

Why should you put your money on Trinidad and Tobago?

Trinidad & Tobago already have two home losses i the Hexagonal, with a 1-3 record overall. Their lone win was an impressive home victory over Panama, but losing at home to Mexico means that they need a lot of help to even think about qualifying for the World Cup. However, the defensive issues that the Yanks have mean that any team has the possibility of exploiting some back-line miscues and finding the back of the net. Tim Howard returns in goal for the Americans, but he has not shown the same brilliance after his sabbatical from soccer that he showed in Brazil in 2014.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

I see the Americans taking care of business against the team with the worst point total in the Hexagonal. I predict a final score of U.S. 4, T&T 0.
