Soccer Betting: Top LaLiga Games to Wager On Week 5

Posted by Derrick Harper on September 15, 2021 in

Just four matches into the new La Liga season, there is already a title race brewing at the top, although one of the usual heavyweights isn’t one of the teams at the top of the table. That adds a little more intrigue to this weekend’s games. Let’s take a closer look at some of the top matchups in La Liga to keep an eye on this week so you can place your bets against LaLiga odds.

LaLiga Betting Analysis for the Best Games On Matchday 5

Atletico Madrid vs Athletic Bilbao

Atletico Madrid is one of three teams that are tied at the top of the table with 10 points, and they will be obvious home favorites this week with a -172 moneyline. But don’t rule out underdog Athletic Bilbao making some noise despite a +480 moneyline. The Lions are currently fifth in the table with two wins and two draws through four games. That includes a draw against mighty Barcelona, so Bilbao won’t be intimidated by playing one of Spain’s heavyweights. Plus, Bilbao has conceded just one goal in four matches, making a draw at +265 an intriguing bet as well.

Real Sociedad vs Sevilla FC

This is likely to be the most competitive match of the weekend in La Liga. At home, Real Sociedad is only a slight favorite at +147, while Sevilla is listed at +185 with the moneyline for a draw set at +205. Sevilla didn’t play last weekend and suffered a disappointing draw with RB Salzburg in the Champions League on Tuesday. Of course, Real Sociedad will have a much quicker turnaround after facing Dutch side PSV in Europa League on Thursday. The Sevilla defense has also been stingy thus far, surrendering just one goal in three matches while the attack has gotten a nice lift early in the season from Tottenham transfer Erik Lamela, who has three goals in three matches.

Valencia vs Real Madrid

This is undoubtedly the biggest match of the weekend, with both teams tied with 10 points and a +7 goal differential. The obvious caveat is that Valencia has played a favorable schedule thus far, beating up on a couple of teams in the bottom half of the table in their last two matches, outscoring Osasuna and Alaves by a combined 7-1. However, oddsmakers are giving Valencia some respect with a +250 moneyline at home. Of course, Real Madrid is still the favorite at -107 after scoring 13 goals over four matches. At the same time, Los Blancos have conceded six goals in four matches and will be coming off a Champions League match against Inter Milan on Wednesday. It’s possible that fatigue could play a role in this match, with Real Madrid facing a team that will be eager to prove itself against one of the best clubs in Europe.

Barcelona vs Granada CF

Match Day 5 comes to an end on Monday when Barcelona hosts Granada. Ronald Koeman’s team is a massive favorite at -434 but will have plenty of pressure to keep pace with the other teams at the top of the table while waiting to play on Monday. Meanwhile, Granada is listed at +900 after managing just two points from four matches. Even a draw seems like a long shot at +500. Keep in mind that Barcelona is still trying to figure out how to move on without Lionel Messi. They also put a lot into Tuesday’s Champions League match against Bayern Munich, so they may not be fully focused on a team like Granada.
