Real Madrid vs Arsenal 2019 International Champions Cup Odds & Pick

The International Champions Cup pre-season tournament rolls on this week with a game between Spanish giants Real Madrid vs Arsenal of the English Premier League. The game is at FedEx Field outside of Washington D.C. with Real Madrid being a slight favorite at +108. Meanwhile, Arsenal has a money line of +206 with a draw listed at +277.

This will be the third and final match of the competition for Arsenal, who is in prime position to win the ICC. They have already had a 2-1 win over Bayern Munich and a 3-0 win over Fiorentina over the last week. A win over Real Madrid won’t lock up the tournament, as five other teams also have a chance to match them on points, but they would certainly become the team to beat with a win.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid is trying to earn their first points of the ICC after losing their opening match to Bayern Munich 3-1. After a disappointing third-place finish in La Liga last season, Madrid would prefer to have a positive preseason, so Zinedine Zidane will be hoping for a better result than Saturday’s loss to Munich.

Blending Together

Most recognize that Los Blancos are in the middle of reloading their roster, and so Zidane experimented a little bit with his lineup on Saturday. However, after getting a look at most of the players on the roster in the first game of the ICC, the Madrid manager should have a better idea of what will work against Arsenal.

Unlike most years, Madrid doesn’t have a lot going on prior to the La Liga season getting underway, so these ICC matches are important. That means Zidane is likely to keep core players like Luka Modric, Toni Kroos, and Karim Benzema in their spots against Arsenal. Meanwhile, he’ll try to mix in some of the team’s new additions, most notably former Chelsea star Eden Hazard, which should give Madrid a strong squad.

Flip Flop

Arsenal manager Unai Emery changed most of his starting lineup from the first ICC game to the second. It was the club’s reserve squad that did most of the damage in the 3-0 win over Fiorentina, as youngster Edward Nketiah scored twice to give him three goals total in the ICC. However, Emery figures to go back to his regulars like Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Granit Xhaka, Alexandre Lacazette, and perhaps even Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Mesut Ozil for the match with Madrid.

Of course, that group started the first match against Bayern Munich and actually played a rather even game with the German giants. The Gunners benefited from a late own-goal by Munich to give them all three points. The game could have just as easily ended in a draw or even a Munich win.

Real Madrid vs Arsenal Prediction

If Real Madrid wants to, there’s nothing stopping them from putting the best team on the field. Arsenal is clearly a little ahead in terms of preparation for the season. But this game is more meaningful for Madrid. Look for Zidane to play close to his best starting 11, take an early lead, and come away with all three points. Bet on Real Madrid beating Arsenal in the ICC on Tuesday.
