MLS July 20th Games Betting Preview

No matter what happens on Monday Philadelphia and Orlando City have already booked passage into the knockout round. The winner of the Union Vs Orlando City game will win the group and if they draw, Orlando City have the tiebreaker on goal differential.

So far neither expansion Inter Miami or group favorites NYCFC have a point in group play but since the top four third-place teams advance to the final 16, either team can keep their hopes alive with a win.

Philadelphia Union Outlook: Finish Strong

The Union have a pair of one-goal wins so far in the group stage. They dispatched favorites NYCFC in the opener 1-0 when captain Ale Bedoya scored in the 63rd minute. In game two they beat a scrappy Inter Miami team 2-1 with an early goal from Kai Wagner and a 63rd minute winner from Kacper Przybylko.

Orlando City Outlook: Continue Forward

The Lions have been right at home in the tournament so far with a last-minute 2-1 win over Inter Miami and a convincing 3-1 win over NYCFC. Getting their captain, Nani, back from suspension has helped as the Portuguese attacker had the winner against Miami. Christopher Mueller has three goals so far in the tournament with a brace against NYCFC

NYCFC Outlook: Salvage the Finale

NYCFC was the group favorite two weeks ago but have yet to get a win in the tournament with a 1-0 loss to Philadelphia and a 3-1 setback to Orlando City. Jesus Medina scored their goal against the Lions while Heber and Valentin Castellanos , who combined for 26 goals last year, have combined for seven shots on goal. Keeper Sean Johnson had three saves in each of the first two games but also allowed four goals.

Inter Miami Outlook: Brighter Days Ahead

Miami has held their own in the first two group games despite losing both 2-1. They had 43% of the possession against Orlando City and led 1-0 through Juan Agudelo before giving up two goals in the final 20 minutes. They had more of the ball against Philadelphia and Rodolfo Pizarro scored in the 36th minute before the Union won the game.

NYCFC has to get it going at some point and facing an expansion side is the best time for that to happen. Heber, Castellanos and company need to gain some confidence and do what they can to get NYCFC into the knockout round.
