France vs. Romania Euro 2016 Betting Preview and Analysis

When: Friday, June 10, at 10:00 PM AST
Where: Stade de France
Euro 2016 Soccer Lines: France to win -325, Romania to Win +1100, Draw +400.

Why Bet on France

Group A is not the toughest of groups in this year’s Euros, as Romania, Albania and Switzerland are all manageable for a team of France’s caliber. Nevertheless, nothing ever comes easy in these competitions and the fact that France is the host nation will come with a lot of pressure for positive results right from the opening game. Fortunately for Didier Deschamps’ squad, the team has been performing quite well in the friendlies they’ve played over the last couple of weeks. Offensively, Arsenal Striker Olivier Giroud has continued his good international form, supported by a strong supporting cast that includes Atletico star Antoine Griezmann and Man United’s Anthony Martial in the attack with Blaise Matuidi and Paul Pogba in the midfield. Defensively, Tottenham shot-stopper Hugo Lloris hasn’t been bothered much, thanks to an experienced core of defenders ahead of him. With Romania barely having any star man on either side of the ball, it would be a big shocker if the superior French team doesn’t walk away with the win as heavy favorites.

Why Bet on Romania

While the Romanians don’t have any popular names in their squad, the team has been able to get the job done against all kinds of opponents using a collective team effort that sees Romania defend and attack as a unit. 35-year-old veteran left-back Razvan Rat, who is Romania’s most-capped player this Friday with 111 international appearances to his name, will be the man charged with offering leadership to a largely young and inexperienced Romania team. That, however, isn’t to say that the Romanians will be pushovers. I mean, this team has some solid budding talents, most notable of them being striker Florin Andone, who tallied an impressive 21 goals for Cordoba in the past season. If Anghel Iordanescu’s men can play to their strengths, which include counter-attacking and using set-pieces to score goals while letting the defense suck off the pressure off opposing teams, an upset win or even a draw could be possible on Friday.

Expert Euro 2016 Soccer Picks and Predictions

Easy as this game looks for France, I can guarantee you that things will be far from smooth-sailing for Les Bleus. This is mainly based on the fact that Romania had the best defense of the qualifying teams in the Euros, conceding just twice in 10 games, meaning Giroud and gang will have their work cut out for them. In the end, though, the home support and France’s good record when hosting a major international tournament–winning Euro 1984 and the World Cup in 1998–should prevail. After all, France are unbeaten in their last 10 games against Romania (W5 D5), with Romania’s last victory against France coming in April 1972, so at the very worst, this game should end in a draw.

My Final Score Prediction: France 2, Romania 0.
