Manchester United will have their backs against the wall when they play the second leg of the Champions League quarterfinal against Barcelona. After winning the first leg 1-0 away from home, Barcelona is favored at -298 at home. Meanwhile, United’s money line is +668 and a draw is set at +391.

After an electric March, Barcelona has slowed down a little in April, settling for a draw in two of their four games. On the one hand, they rested most of their regulars in a scoreless draw in La Liga over the weekend. They also had a somewhat uninspired 1-0 win in the first leg against Manchester United, only scoring on an own goal. On the other hand, they’re still Barcelona and they tend to show up on the big stage.

Meanwhile, Manchester United has suffered a drastic drop in form over the last month. Since their 3-1 win over PSG to reach the quarterfinals, United has two wins and three losses in all competitions. They’ve lost all three of their road games and were largely outplayed by West Ham United over the weekend.

At Least We’re Healthy

The silver lining for Manchester United is that they’re finally healthy. After getting by with squad players and youngsters filling out the lineup card, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer more or less has his full arsenal of players from which to choose.

Of course, the recent results haven’t been that of a team with United’s talent. Solskjaer still hasn’t found the right lineup combination to play in a big game, and he’s run out of time to find it.

In fairness, Paul Pogba has given his all for the club in recent matches and is capable of being a major influence in such a big game.

The Red Devils also have a world-class goalie in David De Gea who can help make up for any defensive lapses. But Marcus Rashford is still battling an ankle injury and only managed to play 55 minutes over the weekend while Romelu Lukaku hasn’t scored since the second leg against PSG over a month ago. If Manchester United expects to advance, they’ll need to score multiple goals, and it’s hard to see where those goals will come from right now.

Come Out and Play

Barca, including star Lionel Messi, didn’t exactly amaze us in the first leg against Manchester United. After getting an early goal, the Catalan side didn’t seem particularly inspired to push for a second goal. Sadly, that could end up being the case again in the second leg, as they know the pressure is on Manchester United to get a goal and make the game competitive.

Of course, being up a goal after the first leg plays right into Barca’s hands. They have the poise to possess the ball and frustrate the Red Devils, as well as the firepower to strike quickly if Manchester United is too aggressive going forward. The Spanish side is likely to take it easy, knowing that the longer the game stays scoreless, the more tempo and flow of the game will move in their favor.

Out of Tricks for Barcelona vs Manchester United

Manchester United pulled a giant rabbit out of its hat to get past PSG in the last round, but it’s hard to imagine something that crazy happening again. If United were in better form, this might be a different story, but the Red Devils don’t look like a side that’s about to conjure up something special. For Barcelona vs Manchester United bet on Barcelona to win at home and advance to the semi-finals.
