Arsenal vs Chelsea 2019 English Premier League Odds, Preview & Prediction

Two days after the Premier League put on a great show on Boxing Day, two London rivals are back at it on Saturday as Arsenal pays a visit to Chelsea. On the road, the Blues have a favorable money line of +127 while Arsenal’s money line is set at +181. Meanwhile, the money line for a draw is set at +262.

Even with a new manager in Mikel Arteta, the result wasn’t that different for the Gunners in Arteta’s debut against Bournemouth on Thursday. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored an equalizer in the 63rd minute, but Arsenal ultimately settled for a 1-1 draw. That result means the Gunners have just one win in their last 13 matches in all competitions. The draw also leaves Arsenal in 11th place, eight points behind Chelsea for a top-4 spot.

Things aren’t going much better for the Blues, who remain in fourth place but with just a 3-point cushion ahead of fifth-place Tottenham. On Thursday, Chelsea suffered a puzzling 2-0 loss to relegation-threatened Southampton. The Blues now have two wins and five losses in their last seven Premier League games, putting them more than 20 points behind first-place Liverpool with dwindling hopes of making a championship push the second half of the season.

Gone Cold

Chelsea’s recent slump has been related to a lack of killer instinct in front of net. Striker Tammy Abraham has just one goal in his last six Premier League games. The Blues have no shortage of possession recently, including their disappointing home losses against Bournemouth and Southampton. However, Abraham and others and failed to seize on their opportunities outside of Willian’s brace against Tottenham.

Frankl Lampard has experimented with a three-back lineup in recent games, hoping to push forward his wing players and get Abraham better service in the box. That didn’t pay off against Southampton, so it’ll be back to the drawing board for the Chelsea skipper. After both Mason Mount and Cristian Pulisic started on the bench during Thursday’s game, Lampard could put both back into the starting lineup against Arsenal in hopes that the youngsters with fresh legs can be the spark the Blues need.

Same Old Story

In a few short days since taking over for the Gunners, Arteta failed to make much of an impact in his first game. In fairness, he shook things up by putting Mesut Ozil back into the starting lineup. But that didn’t lead to many shots on target even though the Gunners snapped a stretch of over 250 minutes without a Premier League goal.

The kicker is that Arteta has even less time to prepare for the match with Chelsea. He’ll also be under pressure to rotate some players with the quick turnaround. That could make it even more difficult for him to find the right combination. Aubameyang has been the one consistent source of goals, scoring four in his last six Premier League games. Meanwhile, Alexandre Lacazette has just one goal during that span with no one else in the squad scoring more than two goals in the Premier League all season.

Arsenal vs Chelsea Prediction

Neither of these teams has been in impressive form lately, making it hard to envision either side finding a match-winner. With the draw offering the highest payout, bet on the two London clubs playing to a draw on Saturday.
