The Round of 16 at the 2018 World Cup didn’t exactly live up to the hype following the group stage, but let’s be honest, that was a tough act to follow. Of course, having multiple games end up going to penalty kicks helped make up for it. We’re now left with the final eight teams, one of which will become world champion. Let’s take a look at the four games that will be played at the 2018 World Cup Quarterfinals.

2018 World Cup Quarterfinals Betting Preview

France vs Uruguay

After three rather mundane performances in the group stage, France finally looked like a team that has found its stride in the Round of 16 against Argentina. The French are fairly heavy -104 favorites to advance past Uruguay, who are listed at +352 to beat the French. Kylian Mbappé, who’s still just 19 years old, was a menace for the Argentine defense, scoring two goals for a France side that stuck four in the back of the net and suddenly looks like a team that’s close to playing up to its enormous potential.

However, Uruguay will not be an easy side to play against. They have allowed just one goal in four games, and if there’s any team that can stop France’s momentum, it may be Uruguay. Of course, there is concern about the health of striker Edinson Cavani, who scored both the team’s goals in the Round of 16 against Portugal. If he’s unavailable or not at full strength, the talent gap between the two sides grows even larger.

Brazil vs Belgium

With the way Brazil has rounded into form in their past couple of games, they have emerged as the clear tournament favorites heading into the quarterfinals. However, they’ll have their work cut out for them against Belgium. Brazil is favored at +109 against the Red Devils, who are set at +262.

The Brazilians have the offensive talent to expose Belgium the same way Japan did on their two goals in the Round of 16. However, Belgium showed in that game that they have loads of quality as well. They also showed that they can overcome adversity, so there is little doubt they will fight Brazil tooth and nail every step of the way.

England vs Sweden

After breaking their penalty kicks curse, England is suddenly among the tournament favorites, and it shows in being favored at -116 to beat Sweden. Meanwhile, the Swedes are getting much respect at +383 despite their win over Switzerland. One thing the Swedes have going for them is their ability to defend, something they’ve done exceptionally well all tournament.

England comes in as the 2018 World Cup Quarterfinals Betting favorite against Sweden.

What hurts Sweden is that their only way to win may be to defend most of the game and hope to win 1-0 or in penalties. Meanwhile, England has been reliant on set pieces throughout the tournament. If Sweden can force England to break them down during the run of play, the Swedes may have a chance to pull off another surprise.

Russia vs Croatia

Host-nation Russia was the biggest surprise among the teams that advanced in the Round of 16, but their odds to top Croatia and reach the semi-final are only +281. Croatia, of course, is still the favorite in the match at +119. The Croatians were a little underwhelming in their match against Denmark, and like Russia, only advanced via penalties.

However, Croatia has shown to be one of the most tactically savvy teams in the tournament, presenting a difficult task for Russia. That being said, the hosts have momentum and the home fans on their side, so nothing is impossible.
