Olympic Basketball USA vs. Australia Betting Preview and Odds

Written by on August 9, 2016

So far, the United States men’s basketball team has won by 57 and 44 points, respectively, over China and Venezuela. This is after getting off to a cold start in the first quarter against Venezuela, although they still finished at 55 percent from the floor and 41 percent from downtown. However, Australia will be a tougher row to hoe than either of the first two games, as they offer a tough front court that will challenge DeMarcus Cousins and DeAndre Jordan for supremacy in the paint. Let’s take a look at your online betting prediction for this matchup.

Why should you bet on the Americans?

The most impressive part of what Team USA is doing right now comes on the defensive end. They limited Venezuela to just 34 percent shooting from the floor, and 28 percent from behind the three-point arc. They continued to show that they have a ton of offensive weapons, as Paul George was the leading scorer on this immensely talented team, with 20 points, followed by 17 points from Jimmy Butler. In two games, they have outscored the opposition by a score of 232-131, a testament not just to offensive talent but commitment on the defensive end of the floor.

Why should you put your money on the Aussies?

This is definitely a team in the conversation for a medal. They have made the quarterfinals in the last two Olympic Games, so they are used to competing at this level. Their impressive 2-0 start includes a 95-80 win over Serbia in which the team shot 49.2 percent from the floor, including 36 percent from downtown, permitting just 39.1 shooting from the Serbs. They were led by NBA star Patty Mills with 26 points, while Matthew Dellavedova kicked in 23 points and 13 assists. Andrew Bogut, one of the newest Dallas Mavericks, chipped in six assists as well. With NBA talent both inside and out, this is definitely a team that could challenge Team USA, particularly against a large spread. Expert Pick and Final Score PredictionI like the Australians to deliver the most serious challenge that Team USA has faced so far in these Olympic Games. However, they don’t have the talent in the backcourt and at the three to hang with the Americans. I’m predicting a 110-90 win for the Red, White and Blue.
