Washington at Philadelphia Pro Hockey Odds Analysis

On Wednesday night, the Philadelphia Flyers host the Washington Capitals in Game 4 of their Eastern Conference quarterfinals, mired in an 0-3 hole after losing to the visitors, 6-1, in Game 3. The Flyers opened the scoring early in the first period but then saw the Capitals pour in six unanswered goals in a game that got ugly before things were over. Why should you bet on Washington?

How did special teams go in this game for the winning side? Washington went 5 for 9 on the power play and blanked the Flyers on the penalty kill, stopping all five power play chances. The Flyers got a goal by Braden Holtby only 57 seconds in, a rebound that got the home crowd all nuts about the Flyers’ chances to steal a win, but then only three minutes went by before Marcus Johansson brought the game level. After that, things got worse in a hurry as Steve Mason let in a long wrist shot from Alex Ovechkin, and the rout was on. By the end, the Flyers were given a bench minor because the fans wouldn’t stop throwing wristbands onto the ice. What we saw was a dominant team taking apart a wild card team…and the wild card team not liking it very much.

Why should you put your money on the Flyers?

The only way the Flyers will be able to get anything out of Game 4 is if they can mount that same desperation for 60 full minutes that powered them through the first three minutes of the first period in Game 3, netting them a short-lived 1-0 lead. They have to bring physicality, but they also have to maintain spacing on defense and keep disciplined instead of letting their inner Ron Hextall out and focus more on hitting than defending and containing the Capitals.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

There are few teams that can play fierce hockey better than the Philadelphia Flyers. However, ferocity is almost impossible to maintain for three periods. I’m predicting a 4-2 Washington win to sweep the series.
