Tampa Bay vs Nashville NHL Betting Preview

Posted by Aaron . on February 11, 2016 in

The Tampa Bay Lightning host the Nashville Predators on Friday night, with the puck set to drop at 7:30pm Eastern time. The Lightning (29-20-4) are in third place in the Atlantic Division, but they are still smarting from a 4-2 loss in Montreal on Tuesday night. The Predators (25-21-8) are in fourth place in the Central Division and just found themselves on the wrong end of a 5-3 score at home against Washington on Tuesday night. The Lightning are clinging to the edges of the NHL playoff betting picture in the East, while the Predators are scrapping for a wild card in the West.

Why Should You Bet on Nashville?

The Predators are in a bit of a rut this year after several years of being a contender in the Western Conference, at least during the regular season. The fact that the Predators are on the edge of missing the playoffs this year has a lot less to do with talent than with execution. They are 18th in the league in scoring (2.6 goals per game) and in goals against (2.7 goals per game), but the real problem is consistent performance from one night to the next. If this is one of the nights when they are firing on all cylinders, they can run the Lightning out of the rink, but betting on them requires you to know which night the “good” Predators are going to come out of the tunnel.

Why Should You Put Your Money on Tampa Bay?

After scuffling along through the first three months of the season, the Lightning found the same chemistry and execution that drove them to the Stanley Cup Finals last season, and they have soared up the Eastern Conference standings. Their setback in Washington should not be seen as a sign that they are faltering; after all, the Caps have been pounding teams all year long. The Lightning are starting to score in bunches, and a Nashville team that is lackadaisical on defense could pay a heavy price early for failing to pay attention.

Expert Betting Pick and Final Score Prediction

Nashville is a team that can bring some real punishment to the ice, but they haven’t been doing so consistently enough this year for me to pick them here, especially on the road. I’m taking the Lightning to win, 3-1.
