NHL Stanley Cup Final Preview: Pittsburgh at San Jose, Game 4
Given that the first two games of this Stanley Cup Final went to Pittsburgh by just a goal apiece, it made sense that when the series shifted to San Jose, the Sharks might be able to shift the momentum, but not by a lot — and the Sharks came through with a 3-2 overtime win. Rookie Joonas Donskoi took advantage of a poor clearing attempt by the Penguins and buried a shot to Pittsburgh goalie Matt Murray’s short side, 12:18 into the extra period. Game 4 is set to face off on Monday night. Find the latest NHL betting odds here.

Why should you bet on Pittsburgh?
Even though the Sharks were able to prevail in overtime, they are still just 1-4 in overtime in these playoffs. The Penguins are 4-3, including that 2-1 victory in Game 2. Pittsburgh also held 1-0 and 2-1 leads in this game. If Murray had been a little more solid, that second goal likely would not have gone in, as Joel Ward hit a slapper from just inside the blue line that Murray saw clearly — and yet it made it through. Murray has been spectacular in these playoffs, and a better game on Monday night will give them the edge.
Why should you put your money on the Sharks?
Sharks goalie Martin Jones just gets more confident with each win. He permitted two goals in the first 20 shots that he saw in Game 3, but then he stopped the last 22 for a total of 40 saves on the night. The Penguins are peppering him with shots, but the Shark defense did a better job in Game 3 of forcing the shooters out wide to take bad-angle shots, and Jones was in the right place at the right time when his team needed him to be. The Sharks have used a combination of speed and defense to dispatch the rest of the West, and they have shown through three games in the Final that they can keep up with the Penguin attack.
Expert Pick and Final Prediction
I like the Sharks to even this series up and send it back to the Steel City at 2-2. I’m predicting a 3-2 San Jose win.
