Safe Bets To Win The 2016 Stanley Cup

The NHL’s 2015-16 season is just easing into the second half after the All-Star break. However, you may be thinking of locking down your bet for the Stanley Cup winner. Let’s take a look at some of the safer bets floating around in our online sportsbook to take home Lord Stanley’s grail this June.

Washington Capitals, Best NHL Odds Team Right Now (10/1)

They’re atop the Eastern Conference, 11 points up on the next team (Florida). So they’re pretty much a lock to make the playoffs and win their division, barring some monumental collapse. There are some good teams who could snag a wild card, but there aren’t that many teams in the East that could keep the Capitals out of the Finals, which means they will have a much easier path than whichever team emerges from the gauntlet of the Western Conference.

Chicago Blackhawks (10/1)

The Blackhawks recently ran off 12 wins in a row to snatch what looked like a sure Central Division lead from the Dallas Stars. The Blackhawks need to keep up the solid play if they want to lock up the division, though. If the Blackhawks win, then Dallas and St. Louis would have to square off in the first round, eliminating one of the two teams that have been a thorn in the Hawks’ side this year.

L.A. Kings (10/1)

The Kings have a seven-point lead on San Jose in the Pacific Division and a 12-point lead on the fourth-place Ducks. As long as they can stay away from a collapse, they will win the Pacific Division. This is a team that knows what it takes to win in the postseason and is likely to see a wild-card team in the first round. This could give L.A. an easier path to the conference finals than the teams that come out of the Central Division will face.

Dallas Stars (12/1)

The Stars got off to a monster start to the season, but a terrible January has them three points behind Chicago in the Central Division. It’s true that the Stars have three games in hand on Chicago, and they are 12 points up on Minnesota, but if they can get back to form and take over the division lead again, they’ll have an easier road in the playoffs. A Stars division championship would pit St. Louis and Chicago against each other in the first round while the Stars have an easier wild card foe.

Tampa Bay Lightning (14/1)

It looked for a while that Tampa Bay would go from Stanley Cup runner-up to missing the playoffs. However, they won 8 of 9 to move into second place in the Atlantic Division. The Panthers are catch able in first place, but if the Lightning revert to their earlier form, they could still miss the playoffs. If the Lightning stay hot, they could knock off the Caps and find their way back to the Stanley Cup Finals once again.
