Pittsburgh at Ottawa NHL Playoffs Betting Odds Game 6

Remember when the Ottawa Senators ran out to a 5-1 laugher over Pittsburgh in Game 3 of their Eastern Conference finals on Wednesday night? Well, things have certainly changed. The Penguins won a squeaker on Friday night, 3-2, and then simply demolished the Senators at home on Sunday afternoon, 7-0. Now the Penguins have a 3-2 series lead and have a chance to eliminate the Senators in front of their fans and move to the Stanley Cup Finals against the surprising Nashville Predators. Can the Senators collect themselves in time to send the series back to Pittsburgh for Game 7? Let’s take a look at the latest NHL Playoffs odds for the game.

Why should you bet on the Penguins?

When Pittsburgh steamrolled their way to their fourth Stanley Cup last spring, they did so with the same sort of relentless pressure that they showed in Game 5 against the Senators. Seven different Penguins put goals in the net, and 11 posted at least one point on the day. Since that forgettable Game 3 ended, the Penguins have outscored the Senators by a 10-2 margin. In Game 5, Pittsburgh went 3 for 3 on the power play and 4 for 4 on the penalty kill — the Senators have now failed to score on their last 29 power plays. Matt Murray got the start in net and turned away 21 Ottawa shots. If the Senators can’t offer more resistance in Game 6, the Penguins can start preparing for Nashville.

Why should you put your money on the Senators?

The Senators are the third team to lose a playoff game by at least six goals this year. However, the other two that had that happen (Edmonton against San Jose in the first round and Anaheim against Edmonton in the second round) rebounded to win the next game and then go on to win the series. So while it’s never good to take that sort of hide-tanning, the Senators might have received the kind of wake-up call that will help them get back to that defense-first philosophy that has carried them this far. Expect defenseman Erik Karlsson to lead a concerted effort by the Senators to keep the Penguins’ attack in line.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

The Senators have proven to be one of the toughest teams in these playoffs so far, and I don’t see them taking three straight beatings from the Penguins. I predict a 3-2 win for Ottawa — and a Game 7.
