Washington Capitals has entered the NHL playoffs as Presidents’ Trophy winners before, but the last time they did that the Montreal Canadiens drummed them out of the playoffs in the first round. These Capitals are intent on getting by the Philadelphia Flyers in Game 2, but the Flyers need to show some desperation if they don’t want to go home down in a 2-0 hole. Find the updated NHL online betting lines here.

Why should you bet on Philadelphia?

Philadephia played the Capitals a lot closer than a lot of 8-seeds have taken on 1-seeds at home, but the Capitals still won 2-0. The majority of the game was close, as it was an iffy penalty call in the second period that put the Caps on the job in the second period, and the puck that got by Steve Mason was bouncing. The Flyers opened with a terrific first period, as they controlled play for the majority of the time. They will need to have that effort for all three periods in Game 2 if they want to win. They will also need to show discipline, as Tom Wilson goaded Philly into a stupid penalty late in the game to get another goal. In their last seven games after a loss, the Flyers are 5-2, so they are good at bouncing back.

Why should you put your money on the Capitals?

The Caps entered the playoffs on a 1-2-2 streak in their last five games, but beating the Flyers appears to have helped them turn the corner. Washington has a terrific special teams unit, and it looks like if they get the right chances they can bury the Flyers early. Alex Ovechkin and Evgeny Kuznetsov were held without points for the night — and the Capitals still won, so once they get uncorked, things could get ugly really fast. Braden Holtby turned aside a paltry 19 shots from Philadelphia for the shutout. If the Flyers can’t generate 23-25 shots per night, then they will not have a chance in this series.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

I like the Capitals to continue to press the advantage and impose their will a little more emphatically in Game 2. I’m predicting a 4-1 Washington victory in Game 2.
