On Saturday afternoon, the Minnesota Wild skate into Buffalo to take on the Sabres in NHL betting action. The Wild (30-25-10, 70 points) are in fifth place in the Central division and knocked off the Toronto Maple Leafs, 2-1, on Thursday night. The Sabres (26-31-8, 60 points) are in seventh place in the Atlantic Division but routed the Calgary Flames, 6-3, on Thursday night.

Why should you bet on the Wild?

The Wild started the season with designs on a playoff spot, but this youthful bunch failed to coalesce into a consistent squad. They are about in the middle of the league in goals per game (15th, 2.6) and power play percentage (13th, 18.9%) and fairly decent on goals against (10th, 2.5), but their penalty kill is dreadful (28th, 76.7%). When they’re on, they deliver results like the 6-3 whipping they gave Colorado on Tuesday. However, their defense has been inconsistent. Their 2-1 shutdown of the Maple Leafs is a positive sign that they could hold things together against a fairly inconsistent Buffalo squad.

Why should you put your money on Buffalo?

The Sabres have a difficult time scoring goals (27th, 2.4 goals per game). However, they got a ton of offense on Thursday night against the Flames. Their 2-1 loss against Edmonton on Tuesday, though, showed their inconsistency. When they jump out on teams, they do well at clamping down on defense. Unless they can get that early lead, though, don’t expect them to come back on Minnesota. If you can get a line where Minnesota is up by a goal, I might take that.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

I like the Wild to come into Buffalo and extract a road win. I’m picking them to finish with a 3-1 win.
