On Tuesday night, the New York Rangers host the Tampa Bay Lightning in pro hockey betting action. The Lightning (45-28-5, 95 points) are in second place in the Atlantic Division and knocked off the New Jersey Devils, 3-1, on Saturday. They face the Islanders in Brooklyn on Monday night before heading across town to face the Rangers in Manhattan on Tuesday. The Rangers (43-26-9, 95 points) are in third place in the Metropolitan Division and fell in an upset to the Buffalo Sabres at home, 4-3, at home on Saturday. They face the Blue Jackets in Columbus on Monday night before coming back home to meet the Lightning.

Why should you bet on the Rangers?

With their next win, the Rangers will clinch a spot in the Stanley Cup playoffs. Adding Eric Staal to the squad has made the team’s offense even stronger, and so this is a team that can score at will. The problem is on the defensive end, as they are not putting in the work needed to protect the goal until they are in a hole, and you can’t expect to dig yourself out of big holes in the regular season — let alone the Stanley Cup playoffs. If the Rangers can get off the schneid against Columbus, though, I expect them to have a furious front against the Lightning on Tuesday night.

Why should you put your money on Tampa Bay?

The Rangers have been giving up big starts to the opposition lately, and as a result they have been unable to clinch their playoff spot. Against the Sabres, the Blueshirts gave up the first three goals of the game, and so Henrik Lundqvist got pulled 46 seconds into the second period when the Sabres went up 3-0. The Rangers are not playing solid defense in front of the net for 60 minutes, and they have been suffering losses to teams that are nowhere near the playoffs. The Rangers did rally back, but it’s hard to come back from that sort of deficit. The Lightning have been slipping back down the standings a bit lately, but if they can get a goal or two in the first, they have an excellent shot at continuing the Rangers’ woes.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

I’m predicting the Rangers will knock off Columbus on the road and then come home to show their form against Tampa Bay. I’m predicting a 4-2 Rangers win.
