Why should you bet on Tampa Bay?

This was a huge win, given that the team was missing Anton Stralman and captain Steven Stamkos. The Lightning have to come out of Game 1 with a ton of self-confidence. Nikita Kucherov led the first line, scoring a pair of goals, while linemate Alex Killorn put away the game winner. This first scoring line has to pull the offensive load. Thanks to the Red Wings’ iffy blue line, this should not be that hard — Detroit permitted 29.7 shots per game. Victor Hedman played a huge role on the blue line for Tampa Bay, even though his goal was reversed. His defensive presence made the Red Wings adjust their game. Ben Bishop took on a ton of shots but saved 34 of them, enough to secure the victory.

Why should you put your money on the Red Wings?

Detroit should take heart in their ability to build a lead early in this game, as they were up 2-1 in the second period. Jimmy Howard was solid in net, turning away 31 of 34 shots and helping to keep the Lightning 0 for 4 on the power play. Mike Green had a nice game, scoring the REd Wings’ second goal. This was his tenth goal in 72 games, not bad for a defenseman. Detroit won the puck possession battle, committing only four turnovers to 10 for the Lightning. So there is no reason to panic, but Detroit needs to find a way to get Dylan Larkin more into the offensive flow. Pavel Datsyuk did play well, getting seven shots on goal all by himself, even though none of them lit the lamp.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

I like Tampa Bay to build on this momentum and play even better defense in the second game. I’m predicting a 3-1 Lightning win.
