Detroit at Tampa Bay NHL Betting Guide

On Thursday evening, the Detroit Red Wings and the Tampa Bay Lightning square off in Florida in Game 5 of their Eastern Conference quarterfinal round. The Red Wings had halved the Lightning’s 2-0 series lead in Game 3 but then found themselves on the wrong end of a 3-2 home loss in Game 4, and now they head back south in a 3-1 hole. Why should you bet on Detroit?

The Red Wings have experience and postseason savvy on their sides, as the ageless Henrik Zetterberg and Pavel Datsyuk are playing their hearts out in this series. That is what brought them the Game 3 win, as Zetterberg and Datsyuk were all over the ice, crashing the net, while the Detroit blue line held firm and limited the Lightning chances. That fell apart a bit in Game 4, as the Red Wings lost discipline, but Detroit has the ability to go back to their Game 3 style and take Game 5, so that the series will return to Detroit for Game 6.

Why should you put your money on the Lightning?

The Lightning have been able to control the Detroit power play all series, as the Red Wings have gone 1 for 21 in the first four games. Also, Tampa Bay has found a way to rattle the Red Wings’ discipline, as they scored all three of their Game 4 tallies on the power play. The types of penalties that Detroit took (hooking, among others) showed that they were in poor position on defense and were trying to compensate. If Tampa Bay can keep pushing the envelope, they can close this series out in five.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

I like Tampa Bay to end the series on Thursday night. I’m predicting a 4-1 Lightning win to close the quarterfinals out.
