NHL Betting: Coyotes Visit Duck for Wednesday Night Scrimmage

It can be argued that a team cannot win consistently in the NHL if they do not have a great goalie between the pipes. You look at Carey Price in Montreal and clearly see how his play in net helps his team win games they probably shouldn’t. The Arizona Coyotes and Anaheim Ducks both have goalies getting off to a fast start, albeit with different results. These two teams will hook up in Anaheim on Wednesday night.

If I were to tell you that Frederick Andersen was going to have a 1.45 GAA through the first two games of the season, how many points do you believe the Anaheim Ducks would have picked up? I would imagine that very few of you would have picked 1 point as the answer, but that I exactly what has happened to the Ducks.

They lost their season opener 2-0 on the road in San Jose, and then followed that up with a 2-1 SO loss to the Vancouver Canucks on home ice. This Ducks team was expected to score a lot of goals this season, and while that may still happen, this start to the season has to be a little worrisome. Through the first 2 games, they have yet to cross the 30 SOG barrier, which means they probably aren’t creating a lot of chances. They do look very solidly defensively, though, and you have to believe that it’s only a matter of time before they get rolling.

Last season was a very forgettable one for the Arizona Coyotes, and they will be the first to admit that one of their biggest problems was the spotty play of goalie Mike Smith. They need him to bounce back in a big way this season, and so far he has answered the call, posting a stellar 1.00 GAA through the first 2 games of the year. He is getting some help from his defense and special teams, too, as the Coyotes have killed all 8 of the penalties they have given up so far. No-one is getting too carried away just yet, but there are early signs of progress, especially since both the games that they have won have been against teams believed to be legitimate playoff contenders. This will be another solid test for the Coyotes.

All 5 games between these two teams last season were of the low-scoring variety, and the UNDER certainly looks like a good pick here. The Ducks have to start winning soon, and I think they may just edge this one.
