We’re previewing a visit by the Calgary Flames (44-31- 4, 92 points) to Anaheim (43-23- 13, 99 points) as the two teams wrap up a home-and- home. The Ducks won up in Calgary, 4-3, on Sunday night. Both teams are in the playoffs, but the Ducks need to keep winning to secure a Pacific Division title and home ice advantage for at least the first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs. Calgary would like to catch San Jose for third place in the Pacific Division and avoid taking on Chicago in the first round. Here’s a closer look at the

Why should you bet on the Flames?

The Flames are an opportunistic team — they rank #9 in the NHL on the power play, scoring 20.6% of the time. They also don’t give up when things look bad — they roared back from a 2-0 deficit to knot matters at 3 on Sunday. The problem for Calgary is that they make defensive errors at precisely the wrong time, undoing a lot of the solid work that they do. If you like Calgary, though, in this game, you see them coming back from a tough home loss and taking it to Anaheim on the road.

Why should you put your money on the Ducks?

Anaheim’s strength comes on the defensive side, as they rank fifth overall in the NHL in goals permitted per game, at 2.4. They also smother penalties, killing them at an 84.4% clip (fourth overall). They took advantage of some sloppy puck-handling by the Flames in the first period, moving out to a 2-0 lead. While Calgary would come back to tie the game at 3, Anaheim had the last laugh, as Logan Shaw found the back of the Flames’ net with 3:06 remaining in the third period to take the win. The Ducks had balanced scoring, as Patrick Eaves, Korbinian Holzer and Jakob Silfverberg all scored as well. Given the fact that Calgary has not won in Anaheim since January 19, 2004 — a string of 24 regular-season games — that back-breaking goal by Shaw may demoralize the Flames to the point where they give up the home-and- home sweep.

Betting Pick and Final Score Prediction

I like the spunky style that Calgary brings, but I don’t see them beating a Ducks team looking to solidify playoff position on the road. I predict a 3-2 Anaheim win.
