Let’s hop in our time machine and go back to May 10th, 1970.  The scene was the Boston Garden.  The Boston Bruins were hosting the St. Louis Blues in Game 4 of the Stanley Cup finals. The Bruins would go on to beat the Blues in overtime that night and with that victory, earn a 4-0 sweep and hoist the Stanley Cup.

Fast Forward to Monday, May 27, 2019.  For the first time since that May night in 1970, the St. Louis Blues will be playing for the Stanley Cup. The scene will once again be in Boston, but will be at the TD Garden arena, as the Bruins will host the Blues for Game 1 of the Stanley Cup finals. This best of seven rematch has been 49 years in the making, and promises to be an exciting one. Lets check the Stanley Cup betting Odds for this game 1.

Blues vs Bruins 2019 Stanley Cup Playoffs Odds & Game 1 Picks

Rask and Binnington Both Hot

Goaltending will be one of the main storylines in this series, as the red-hot Tuukka Rask minds the net for the Bruins, while rookie sensation Jordan Binnington will be in the crease for the Blues.  This will be a series where Rask can silence his critics.  He has been known to disappear in big moments. Throughout this postseason, he has been stellar, and he looks to continue his 2019 postseason dominance.

Binnington was called up midway through the 2018-19 season. He went 24-5-1 with a 1.89 GAA during the regular season. He hasn’t had the best postseason, but he is undefeated in closeout games during the postseason.

Offense Needs to Shine

Now for the offense. Brad Marchand has led the Bruins in scoring this postseason. Marchand has scored seven goals with 11 assists.  He, along with Patrice Bergeron and David Pastrnak, has sparked the Bruins offense on their finals run.

Jaden Schwartz has been the firepower leading the Blues offense during their postseason run. Schwartz has 12 postseason goals. Schwartz only scored 11 goals during the regular season.

Schwartz has had help from Vladimir Tarasenko. Tarasenko went on a points tear during the Western Conference finals. Factor in David Perron, Ryan O’Reilly, Tyler Bozak, and defenseman Alex Pietrangelo, and the Blues can put the puck in the bet at any time.

Defensively, the Bruins will be able to match up with the scoring lines of the Blues. Brandon Carlo is a shutdown defense. The defensive unit led by veteran captain Zdeno Charo, Torey Krug, and Charlie McAvoy can also put points on the board as well as control the Blues offense.

Colton Parayko and Jay Bouwmeester are the Blues shutdown defensemen. With Pietrangelo doing the scoring, the Blues defense matches up well with the Bruins.

Blues vs Bruins Final Prediction: Blues Steal Game 1

In Game 1, everyone will be hyped. The Bruins could be a tad bit rusty after a long layoff.  The inexperienced Blues could let their nerves get the best of them. With all of the excitement surrounding the Stanley Cup Finals, both teams will go all out. Look for great goaltending, and fast paced offensive attacks. Home ice could be the advantage that Boston needs to take Game 1. The Bruins and Blues will be a great matchup that should lead to a phenomenal series. The Blues will be looking for a different result than the one from May 10th, 1970. Look for St. Louis to find a road win.
