The St. Louis Blues will open up their defense of the Stanley Cup on opening night, as they host the 2018 Stanley Cup Champions, the Washington Capitals. Let’s preview some of the top games and the latest odds of the opening week of the 2019-2020 NHL season.

Top NHL Betting Picks of the Week – September 30th Edition

Wednesday, October 2 – Washington Capitals @ St. Louis Blues

Only one team in the past 21 years has repeated as Stanley Cup champions. The St. Louis Blues are looking to be the team to break that streak. With nearly all of last season’s team returning, the Blues think they have a good shot. It’ll be banner raising night at the Enterprise Center, and history tells us that the home team seems to struggle on those nights. Washington will come in wanting to spoil the celebration.

San Jose Sharks @ Las Vegas Golden Knights

The Golden Knights are entering their third season as an expansion team. The first two seasons have been much more successful than anyone could have predicted. The San Jose Sharks have been a power in the Western Conference over the past few seasons. These two teams play in the preseason finale, and then play twice in a row. We could see some fireworks between these two before it’s all said and done.

Thursday, October 3 – Winnipeg Jets @ New York Rangers

There’s always a lot of optimism surrounding the Rangers. New York had a lackluster season last year, but made a lot of free agent signings in the offseason, so if everything gels together, they should have a better season. However, teams that have a lot of change tend to start out slowly. The Jets didn’t exactly tear up the NHL last season either, so this will be a battle of teams that are looking to improve.

Friday, October 4 – Toronto Maple Leafs @ Columbus Blue Jackets

The Blue Jackets finally won a playoff series last season. However, due to financial constraints, the small market team was unable to keep it’s stars. We’re looking for the Blue Jackets to take a downward path this season. Toronto has Stanley Cup aspirations. They’re talented, but their lack of a true goaltender could be the barrier that keeps them from making a real challenge at the top prize.

Saturday, October 5 – Carolina Hurricanes @ Washington Capitals

This will be the third game in four nights for the Caps. The Caps will be out for revenge, as the Hurricanes knocked the defending Stanley Cup champions out of the 2019 playoffs. Both teams should be fighting for playoff spots, so this should be a very competitive early season matchup. We’ll be anxious to see if the Capitals are worn out from the strenuous scheduling.

Week 1 of the NHL Betting season has some very intriguing matchups. Teams will be full of energy for the start of the new season. At this point in the season, everyone still thinks that they have a legitimate shot at hoisting Lord Stanley’s Cup, so emotions will be running high. This week kicks off the start of a long NHL Betting season, it should be fun!
