Updated 2019 Stanley Cup Odds – December 21st

It’s been a great start to the National Hockey League season. The odds are updated to win the Stanley Cup, and there is a good chance that a team from Canada will take the final game. No Canadian team has won Lord Stanley’s Cup since the Montreal Canadiens in 1993, but 2019 looks like a promising year for the 26-year drought to come to an end. Let’s take a look at some of the favorites at the latest Stanley Cup Odds.

Updated 2019 Stanley Cup Odds – December 21st

Jets Back in the Mix

The Winnipeg Jets ran out of gas against the Vegas Knights in the conference finals this past year, but they’ve looked impossible to beat for large stretches recently. With their young guns only trending upwards, we’d give Winnipeg the best chances of ending Canada’s 24-year cup drought as this season unfolds.

Toronto with Nice Season

Toronto isn’t a bad bet either, despite their incredibly short odds. Their defense is suspect, but they’ve got the best collection of top-9 forwards in the league and Andersen has been exactly what the doctor ordered.

Flames Will Compete

Calgary looks like it can win a round or two, at least. Although I’m not sold on them being a genuine cup contender, they’ve proved a lot of doubters wrong thus far. With Mark Giordano looking like he’ll win his first Norris at 35 and the Gaudreau-Monahan-Lindholm trio ranking among the league’s best line. If they can continue to get by with passable goaltending out of their Rittich-Smith tandem, look out.

Others in Canada

The Canucks, Canadiens, and Senators have had much better starts than expected, but don’t anticipate them to contend for the cup this season. The Canadiens look like they’ve got an outside shot at a wildcard spot, but the Canucks and Senators are a few seasons away from being legitimate contenders.

The Toronto Maple Leafs opened the season as the favorites to win the Stanley Cup. Time will tell if they’ll break their 50-year cup drought, but they’re poised for success after landing John Tavares in the offseason. Despite losing Auston Matthews for a month (possibly more) to a shoulder injury, the Nylander-less Maple Leafs just kept on winning. Down the stretch, with both of them back in the lineup, the Maple Leafs should be poised for big-time success.

Lightning Look to Be Threat

Tampa has briefly overtaken Toronto as the odds-on favorite, and despite a rash of injuries, Nashville is gaining some ground on the pack leaders.

The Lightning are among the favorites at the latest Stanley Cup Odds.

Make no mistake, both of these teams are bonafide cup contenders. Either team, Toronto or Nashville, may soon edge Tampa Bay out as oddsmakers’ choice for the cup favorites. This race of the top three should be fun to watch as the season continues. I expect several “lead changes”.

Predators Trying to Get Back

My bet is on Nashville though. Despite all the power across the border to our North, the team my heart flutters for is the Preds. They have no clear weaknesses on their roster, at any position. All of their injured stars will return well before the playoffs start and if they stay healthy, it’s difficult to imagine this team is going to fall short of a Stanley Cup berth.
