Wild Card Weekend: Packers at Redskins Total NFL Betting

Posted by Aaron . on January 8, 2016 in

This Sunday, the Green Bay Packers (11-5) head to Washington to face the Redskins (9-7) in the NFL betting wild card round of the NFC playoffs. The game kicks off at FedExField at 4:40pm Eastern time. The Redskins get to host the game by virtue of winning the NFC East. The Packers had a chance to win the NFC North division but fell in Week 17 at home to the Minnesota Vikings, 20-13. The Redskins are 1.5-point favorites in this game, and the over/under total is 47 points.

Why should you bet on the Pack (+1.5)?

One thing that the entire National Football League has learned over the last decade is that when Aaron Rodgers is involved in a football game, the Packers are almost never down and out. In their win at Detroit, the Packers rallied back from a halftime deficit to win on a bomb that soared 65 yards in the air with no time remaining. In their Week 17 loss to the Vikings, they were down 17 at the start of the fourth but had a chance to tie on the last play of the game. The Packers have made a tradition of going to the playoffs — qualifying for seven years in a row. They have the experience of postseason stress, and they have made a habit out of winning.

Why should you put your money on Washington (-1.5)?

A lot of people might be tempted to look down on the Redskins because of their divisional schedule, playing six games in the dreadful NFC East. However, the Eagles and Giants have been more inconsistent than simply awful, as the Eagles were the first team to knock off the Patriots, and the Giants roared back from a 28-point deficit to tie the Panthers, losing a bunch of games by less than a touchdown. so the Redskins’ divisional competition was a bit tougher than you might think. Also, Kirk Cousins has been terrific at home, winning the NFC Offensive Player of the Week twice and completing just about 75 percent of his passes, with 16 scores against only two interceptions. He has played especially well down the stretch, throwing for 14 scores while only giving up one interception in their last six contests. This has been key in the Redskins winning five of those of those six.

NFL Betting Pick and Final Score Prediction

The Packers’ offensive line has been riddled with injuries. Their passing defense has too many holes, and Kirk Cousins will find them at home. I like the Redskins to keep their momentum going and prevail, 24-20, moving on to the divisional round.
