Week 4 Packers vs Chiefs NFL Preseason Prediction

Posted by Peter Boysen on August 31, 2016 in

The Kansas City Chiefs and the Green Bay Packers have made a tradition, in recent years, of meeting to close out their preseason schedules. The teams that met in the very first Super Bowl are meeting in the preseason for the eighth time — and the sixth since 2010 — in Week 4. The Packers have won four of the overall seven preseason finales between the two teams and eight of the 16 preseason games the teams have played overall. Take a look at the betting lines for all of the Week 4 preseason action.

Why should you bet on Green Bay?

The Packers have had the Chiefs’ number in recent years, winning three of the last four preseason meetings and two of the last three meetings during the regular season. In 2015, the two teams met at Lambeau Field in Week 3, and the Packers prevailed by a 38-28 score. While the Packers have not win in Kansas City since a matchup in the 2007 regular season, Green Bay has won four of their last five preseason finales, and in the last two seasons, they have won their preseason finales by an aggregate score of 72-24. This year Green Bay is 3-0 in the preseason for the first time since 2009. Even though many of the starters, including quarterback Aaron Rodgers, are not expected to get on the field, the Packers seem to have what it takes to finish out the preseason in a big way.

Why should you put your money on the Chiefs?

Despite the fact that Kansas City looks set to feature an offense that is quite vanilla on Thursday night, the fact remains that quite a few of the Chiefs on the field will be playing for their professional careers, as the Chiefs have only whittled down their roster to 75 players and have 22 more cuts to make. So the men on the field will be looking to make a name for themselves — which can lead to big plays. Even though the Chiefs aren’t expected to show a lot of razzle-dazzle, they do have a lot of talent up and down their roster, and those near the bottom could make a big showing.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

Both the Chiefs and the Packers have looked solid at different points of the preseason so far. Given how few of their impact players will be on the field on Thursday, though, that’s not the best index to use. I like the Packers’ history of finishing strong in the preseason, so I’m picking them to win, 28-17.
