Week 4 Broncos vs Cardinals NFL Preseason Prediction

Posted by Peter Boysen on August 31, 2016 in

The defending Super Bowl champion Denver Broncos head to the desert to take on the Arizona Cardinals in Week 4 of the NFL preseason. The Broncos (2-1) announced that Trevor Siemian will be their starting quarterback to open the regular season, which means that we’ll be seeing a lot of Mark Sanchez and Paxton Lynch in the preseason finale. The Cardinals (0-3) have seen a mostly dreadful performance from starting quarterback Carson Palmer and the first-team offense to this point, so they really need to see some positive signs from this game as they approach their opener against the Carolina Panthers on September 8. Here are the NFL odds for all of the Week 4 action.

Why should you bet on Denver?

No matter who the Broncos put at quarterback, they are pretty much always in position to win, thanks to a rock-solid defense. This bodes well given the fact that they have three quarterbacks right now, but none of them have been playing particularly well. This might sound like doom for most teams, but the Broncos seem to have a system that works for them. The offensive line (particularly Max Garcia) lacked some energy against the Rams in Week 3, but they also had to adapt to some man run calls instead of their usual zone blocking scheme. As long as C.J. Anderson and Ronnie Hillman keep pounding the ball, the Broncos should be fine.

Why should you put your money on the Cardinals?

Given that Carson Palmer is not expected to play, the Cardinals are going to rely on Drew Stanton to run the offense. In Week 3, when Arizona fell to Houston, Stanton did make some good throws behind an offensive line that provided some protection, but he also tried to force some balls into some tight windows. If he can exercise better judgment in Week 4, the Cardinals should be able to move the ball, especially if the Broncos roll out their defensive reserves from the beginning.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

The Cardinal offense has really sputtered throughout the entire preseason, and taking on an elite defense from Denver is not going to help. I don’t see Sanchez or Lynch doing a whole lot on offense for Denver, but I think the Broncos will get more than the Cardinals do. I’m predicting a 16-10 Denver win.
