Eagles vs Colts NFL Preseason Week 3 Expert Pick

Posted by Peter Boysen on August 26, 2016 in

With the third preseason game coming, the Philadelphia Eagles and the Indianapolis Colts are both trying to round into regular season form, and they both have difficult quarterback situations as Sam Bradford tries to settle in as the leader of the Eagles’ offense, and Andrew Luck tries to return from that awful kidney laceration that sidelined him for most of last season. The starting units are expected to get the most work they will see in the preseason, while the second half is going to feature those reserves who are fighting for the very last spots on the roster. Check out the sportsbook odds on this game and the rest of the Week 3 slate.

Why should you bet on Philadelphia?

The Eagles have shown that their defense will be more aggressive this year. The unit had four takeaways against Pittsburgh a week ago — and when you can end an opponent’s drive with a turnover four different times, that gives you a huge advantage in the game. Where the Eagles need to improve is on the offensive side of the ball. Washington cornerback Josh Norman came out and ridiculed Sam Bradford for asking for money despite failing to rank in the top 20 quarterbacks in the NFL. If Bradford can improve this regular season, the Eagles can go a long way.

Why should you put your money on the Colts?

Any concerns that Andrew Luck would be rusty when he returned to lead the Indianapolis Colt offense were dispelled when he came out in Week 2 of the preseason and rolled right over Baltimore going 8 for 8 for 69 yards in two series. The drives ended in a field goal and a fumble, but Luck looks more than ready, and the Colts should find some holes down the field. The Eagles do have an above average pass rush that could force Luck into some poor decisions, but his prior performance suggests that he’s not going to wait around and get strip-sacked or force the ball into a coverage window that’s just too tight.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

I like the Colts all the way in this one. Luck looks locked in, while Sam Bradford can’t even decide whether he likes his job. That difference will extend to other parts of the team as well, as the Eagles still search for an offensive identity while the Colts seem more prepared on both sides of the ball. I’m predicting a 27-17 Indianapolis win.
