Washington at Philadelphia Week 14 Betting Pick & Prediction

Posted by Peter Boysen on December 7, 2016 in

The Washington Redskins (6-5- 1) head to Philadelphia to take on the Eagles (5-7) on Sunday afternoon for an NFC East showdown. The Eagles have dropped five of six, including an emphatic loss to the Cincinnati Bengals a week ago. The Redskins come in on a two-game losing streak, having fallen in Dallas on Thanksgiving and in Arizona last Sunday. The Redskins are on the verge of sliding out of the playoff race, while the Eagles would love nothing better than to play the spoiler. Take a look at all of our NFL odds for this weekend’s games.

NFL Odds: PICK, O/U 46.5

Why should you bet on the Redskins?

None of Washington’s problems have to do with offense. Quarterback Kirk Cousins has thrown for more than 400 yards in three of the last four games. Given the problems that Philadelphia has had on defense in the past two months, Cousins should have plenty of time in the pocket and should find DeSean Jackson and the rest of the receiving corps all over the secondary. The issue with Washington is defense. Arizona converted 10 of 16 third downs last week, including five conversions when they had to make eight yards or more. They had similar problems stopping Dallas, giving up the game-winning drive late in the fourth quarter on Thanksgiving.

Why should you put your money on the Eagles?

Carson Wentz has had a difficult time over the past few weeks, but a big reason has been injuries to wideout Jordan Matthews and tailback Ryan Mathews, which made the offense one-dimensional, focusing on the pass, but without their best target. Both players should return against Washington; together, they have been a part of about a third of the yards that the Eagles have gained from scrimmage, and they have combined to score half of the team’s 22 offensive touchdowns on the season. Washington struggles to stop opposing offenses, so the Eagles should be able to find plenty of room to operate as well.

Betting Pick and Final Score Prediction

Even before the Eagles lost these two offensive weapons, the rest of the league had already started to figure out Wentz. I like the Redskins to keep moving the ball like they have been, but I don’t see the Eagles reaching that same level of consistency. I predict a final score of Washington 27, Philadelphia 20.
