Wild Card #3: Seahawks vs Vikings NFL Betting ATS

If you took a quick look at the NFL betting lines on the Seattle-Minnesota wild card game set for Sunday at 1:05pm Eastern time, you saw that the Seahawks are favored by six — and you could be forgiven for guessing that the game was going to take place in Seattle. However, Seattle is favored by six on the road — as the game will take place at the Vikings’ temporary home, TCF Bank Stadium in Minneapolis.

This is a big line for a playoff game, especially if you consider that home teams generally get three points on a spread just for hosting the contest. So why are the Seahawks favored by so much, given the fact that their primary option at running back (Christine Michael) is a player that they waived once and then reclaimed once Dallas tried him out and waived him again?

Week 17 is a big reason. Yes, the Vikings held on to win in Green Bay and take the NFC North title away from the Packers. Hello, that 20-13 victory paled in comparison to the 36-6 beating that the Seahawks delivered in their Week 17 win over the Arizona Cardinals. It’s true that the Cardinals didn’t have anything on the line in the game, as they already had a bye clinched, but the poor performance that they put out there on the field was troubling — and the dominance that the Seahawks showed has played a major role in setting this line.

Then there’s the 38-7 rout that Seattle put on Minnesota — at TCF Bank Stadium — on December 6. They dominated the Vikings in all phases of the game — and the Vikings had both Teddy Bridgewater and Adrian Peterson in that game. That didn’t stop Minnesota’s momentum; even though they did drop a close decision in Arizona, they won their last three games SU and ATS, including that win over the Packers.

The dominance that the Seahawk has shown has played a major role in setting this line.

It’s worth pointing out that the Vikings are 9-1 against the spread (and 4-6 SU) in their last 10 games as an underdog. That includes the win in Green Bay. However, the Seahawks were 6-1 SU and ATS in their last seven games. The last three times the Vikings and Seahawks have met, Seattle has gone 3-0 both Su and ATS.

NFL Betting Odds Pick and Final Score Prediction

If you take the combination of the trends that both teams have shown with the spread and in the play that they’ve been showing on the field, I don’t see Minnesota covering, let alone winning. Seattle appears to be a team on a mission, and I would not be at all surprised to see them bulldoze their way to a third straight Super Bowl berth. That’s why I’m picking the Seahawks to win this game, 31-20.
