San Francisco at Chicago Week 13 Betting Pick & Spread

Posted by Peter Boysen on December 1, 2016 in

The San Francisco 49ers (1-10) and the Chicago Bears (2-9) are basically caught competing for draft coices at this point. The 49ers demolished the Rams in Week 1 but haven’t won since. The Bears won before the bye but have dropped three all of their contests since. Check out our NFL odds for all of this weekend’s contests.

San Francisco at Chicago Week 13 Betting Pick & Spread

When: Sunday, December 4, 2016, 1:00pm ET
Where: Soldier Field, Chicago
Radio: San Francisco / Chicago
Live Stream: NFL Live
NFL Odds: Chicago (-2.5), O/U 43.5

Why should you bet on the 49ers?

The 49ers score 20.7 points per game, which puts them above average in the league, even though they are #28 in the league in yards per game. They have picked things up a bit on the offensive end since Colin Kaepernick took the starting quarterback job back from Blaine Gabbert. However, the defense is a dumpster fire, ranking dead last in the NFL in points permitted, rushing yards permitted and total yards permitted. It hurt when linebacker NaVorro Bowman blew out an Achilles tendon earlier in the season, but this unit struggled mightily before that happened. If you bet on the Niners, you like this iffy defense to slow down the offense, led by Matt Barkley in what will be his second NFL start, and you like the offense to move the ball against a porous Bear defense.

Why should you put your money on the Bears?

While the Bears have only won one more game than San Francisco has won this season, they have played much more competitively; five of those losses come by single digits, and the last two were each by six points. Matt Barkley looked decent in his first NFL start last week, throwing for 316 yards and three touchdowns. Unfortunately, he also threw two interceptions. The running game relies on rookie tailback Jordan Howard, who averages about 5.5 yards per carry on the season. The defense has not been stout — as one might expect from a 2-9 team — but the offense should be able to find room against an awful Niner defense.

Betting Pick and Final Score Prediction

This will not be an attractive game from a football aesthetics standpoint. However, I like the Bears to move the ball through the San Francisco defense easily enough to get the win. I predict a final score of Chicago 24, San Francisco 16.
