Preseason Week 3 Giants vs Jets NFL Lines & Winning Pick

Written by on August 26, 2016

The New York Giants and the New York Jets take the field in Week 3 of the preseason in the stadium that they share, as both teams put their starting units through the most work they will get on the field before the regular season. Then, they will turn the second half over to the reserves as the coaches try to figure out those last few roster spots, keeping some men in the NFL and sending others out of the sport, some for the last time. Let’s take a look at the NFL odds for this preseason matchup. These two teams last met in the 2015 regular season, and the Jets pulled out a 23-20 victory.

Preseason Week 3 Giants vs Jets NFL Lines & Winning Pick

When: Saturday, August 27, 2016, 7:30pm ET Where: MetLife Stadium, East Rutherford, NJ TV: CBS 2 New York Radio: ESPN NY 98.7 FM Live Stream: NFL Game Pass NFL Odds: N.Y. Giants (-2.5), O/U 42.5

Why should you bet on the Giants?

If you’re going to bet on the Giants, that means that you think that the Men in Blue will be able to figure out the woes in their offensive line in a single week. In Week 2, the team failed to score a single point against a Buffalo team that is not viewed among the league’s elite. Their offensive line could not break open the holes that they needed to get the running game going. The passing defense is also vulnerable, particularly with balls down the field, but Ryan Fitzpatrick really isn’t that kind of passer, instead choosing short and intermediate route distances when he needs to move the chains through the air.

Why should you put your money on the Jets?

Do you think that Ryan Fitzpatrick can lead this offense on a consistent basis? If so, then you were impressed with his 3-for-4 performance in Week 1, when he threw for 72 yards and looked like he was in midseason form. In Week 2, though, he took a giant step back, going just 4 for 9 for 35 yards. It’s true that these are just pre-season numbers, but you can translate a lack of sharpness in the preseason into a difficult start to the regular season, so Fitzpatrick will have to be on his game again for the Jets to look solid. Otherwise, the team will start having to consider using Geno Smith at quarterback. The Jets have a solid secondary, so the defensive end will be consistent, but the Jets need to figure out how to score.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

The Jets were a Week 17 win away from the postseason last year, while the Giants had only the Dallas Cowboys cushioning them from the bottom of the NFC East standings. I like the Jets to keep that dominance up from last year and win, 30-17.
