The Buffalo Bills head to the nation’s capital to take on their second NFC East foe in two weeks in preseason action. In Week 2, they shellacked the New York Giants, 21-0, but they face the defending division champions this week, as both teams will roll out their starting lineups for at least the first half in this dress rehearsal for the opening week of the season. The teams last met during the 2015 regular season, as the Redskins took a 35-25 decision at home during their four-game winning streak that led them to the NFC East crown. Check out our NFL betting preview for this matchup.

Why should you bet on Buffalo?

The Bills showed many positives in Week 2. Despite the fact that Pro Bowl defensive tackle Marcell Dareus entered drug rehab, the Bills showed that they can mount a furious pass rush and contain the run without him. Wideout Sammy Watkins is expected to take the field for the first time in the preseason, and even with limited action, he should make a difference against a Washington pass defense that is generally quite giving. Tyrod Taylor should be able to take advantage of that with both his feet and his rifle arm. He led an impressive scoring drive against the Giants in Week 2, and when EJ Manuel enters the game in the second half, there should not be much of a drop-off in production — in Week 2, he led the Bills to a pair of touchdown drives. If the Redskins don’t mount a defensive presence, this could be just as much of a thumping as last week’s contest. After all, if you know Bills coach Rex Ryan at all, you know that he loves to get revenge, and you know he remembers last season’s loss.

Why should you put your money on the Redskins?

The Redskins didn’t even play Kirk Cousins, wideout DeSean Jackson and star cornerback Josh Norman last week, preferring to protect them from the possibility of injury, and they still knocked off the New York Jets in Week 2. They did lose starting tailback Matt Jones to a second-degree AC sprain in his left shoulder, though, and he will be out for the rest of the preseason. Rob Kelley should get the balance of the reps i Week 3, along with Keith Marshall. Even though wideout Josh Doctson, the electrifying TCU product, will not appear, Cousins and Jackson can stir up enough offense to knock off the Bills.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

I was really impressed with what the Bills showed in Week 2. The Redskins have a lot of weapons as well, but I think the Bills are ahead of them at this point. I’m predicting a 23-17 Buffalo victory.
