Preseason Week 2 Bears vs Patriots NFL Odds and Expert Pick

The Chicago Bears head up to New England to take on the Patriots in the second week of the 2016 NFL preseason. The Bears were held scoreless in their opener against the Denver Broncos, 22-0, while the Patriots delivered a 34-22 thumping to the New Orleans Saints in their first preseason game. Use this contest to make some NFL betting cash while the preseason is still just getting underway.

Why should you bet on the Patriots?

The Patriots are featuring a lot of Jimmy Garoppolo in this preseason, as the Patriots are preparing to start their backup quarterback for the first four games of the regular season due to the four-game DeflateGate suspension. Garoppolo played the whole first half against New Orleans, throwing the ball for 168 yards, and the Patriots also showed their opportune side on defense as Jamie Collins took an interception back 43 yards for a score. Against Chicago, the Patriots could play both Garoppolo and Brady as they want to keep Brady sharp for his return in Week 5. That means that the Bears will basically be facing a starter for New England for the majority of the game.

Why should you put your money on Chicago?

I’ve been writing a lot about how the Chicago defense should be improved in its second season under John Fox, and I’ve also been writing a lot about how Mark Sanchez will not be a good quarterback for the Broncos. However, both of those opinions took a beating in Week 1, as Sanchez went 10 for 13 yards for 99 yards and a score in the opening quarter. He did throw a pick on the second possession, but he found open receivers against the Bears’ aggressive pass rush. The Patriots don’t have as good a defense as the Broncos, and if the Bears can hurry Garoppolo, he will likely make more mistakes.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

I like the Patriots to overwhelm the Bears early and then also win the battle of the backups. I’m predicting a 27-14 New England win.
