Why should you bet on the Panthers (-2.5)?

Since November 2014, the Panthers have simply been a team that has refused to lose. They have only lost two games over that time period, the divisional playoff last year and the Week 16 game in Atlanta this year. Cam Newton should be a lock for the NFL MVP this season because of the difference he makes with arm and his legs — leading all quarterbacks in rushing for the 2015 campaign. It’s easy to overlook the solid defense that the Panthers play, behind the leadership of Luke Kuechly. Teams struggle to run the ball against the Panthers, and their pass rush has sent quarterbacks running for their lives all season. Expect Wilson to struggle to do much at all against this Panther onslaught.

Why should you bet on Seattle (+2.5)?

The Seahawks have advanced to the Super Bowl the past two seasons, often winning their playoff games on the road and overcoming countless obstacles. Their “Legion of Boom” defense was the #2 unit in the NFL this season, and if they hadn’t gotten off to that bumpy 2-4 start, they would have likely won the NFC West and been resting last week with one of the byes. The fact that they struggled so mightily on offense against the Minnesota Vikings was likely a function of weather more than anything else — it’s hard to extrapolate anything meaningful on the basis of a game played in such extreme cold. This experience in winning tough playoff games by overcoming adversity will serve the Seahawks well again this weekend.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

As solidly as the Panthers have played this year, they don’t yet have the experience of what it is like to win a tough postseason football game as a unit. The Seahawks do, and their strengths on both sides of the ball will help them win this game (and cover), 20-16.
