Jaguars vs Texans Week 17 NFL Pick & Betting Preview

Posted by Aaron . on December 30, 2015 in

The Jacksonville Jaguars head to the Lone Star State to face the Houston Texans at NRG Stadium this Sunday. The Texans just won a key divisional tilt against Tennessee last week, as Jacksonville comes in on the heels of a disappointing loss to the Saints in New Orleans. The Texans are a favored NFL pick to win by 6.5 points.

Should you pick the Texans (-6.5)?

Jacksonville (5-10) has only won one game away from Jacksonville, losing six games on the road. The Texans have held serve at home four times already — and that’s in a season that has featured some serious quarterback chaos, as they have gone through Ryan Mallett, Brian Hoyer (twice) and T.J. Yates before now handing the ball to Brandon Weeden, coming off an unusual three-touchdown game. DeAndre Hopkins has been terrific on offense for Houston, with six 100-yard reception games so far this year. When the two teams met last, Hopkins caught 10 balls for 148 yards and two scores. The Jags are #31 in points permitted, and Houston could take advantage of them again.

Blake Bortles has been an offensive machine and a highlight in the Jaguars year.

Should you bet on Jacksonville (+6.5)?

Blake Bortles has been an offensive machine for the Jags this year, throwing for 35 touchdowns and gaining over 4,000 yards. His receiving trio of Julius Thomas, Allen Hurns and Allen Robinson is immensely talented. When Jacksonville and Houston met earlier this year, Bortles threw for three scores and 331 yards. If Houston wins this game, they win the AFC South, and Jacksonville would like nothing better than to be the spoiler.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

Jacksonville has been a solid team this year, but Houston’s suffocating defense and playing in Houston will combine to give the Texans the win and the cover. I like them to prevail 27-17.
