Indianapolis at Green Bay Week 9 Betting Pick & Prediction

Posted by Peter Boysen on November 4, 2016 in

The Indianapolis Colts (3-5) make a rare trip to Lambeau Field on Sunday, to take on the Green Bay Packers (4-3). The Colts delivered a sound win over Tennessee two weeks ago, but then they fell by two scores to a Kansas City Chiefs team that looked like its quarterback was operating at maybe 50%. Inconsistency has been the name of the game for the Colts this year, but you could say the same for the Packers, who have seen Aaron Rodgers deliver a series of uneven performances, and whose defense has been quite charitable to opponents at crucial moments. They fell in Atlanta, 33-32, on a last minute touchdown pass by Matt Ryan. Take a look at our NFL betting lines for this weekend.

Indianapolis at Green Bay Week 9 Betting Pick & Prediction

NFL Odds: Green Bay (-7.5), O/U 54

Why should you bet on the Colts?

Green Bay is just 3-5-1 against the spread in their last nine games at Lambeau. They have gone under the point total in nine of their last 10 games at home. The “under” is relevant here because of the size of this line. The Packers have had trouble moving up and down the field, particularly against defenses that are more solid. Aaron Rodgers has inexplicably missed on open pass after open pass, giving up possessions and causing Packer drives to stall at just the wrong time. Even the return of wide receiver Jordy Nelson to the lineup has failed to spark the Packer offense like the team hoped it would. If the Colts can sustain a couple of drives for touchdowns at the start of the game, they can build momentum and roll to a cover, if not a win.

Why should you put your money on the Packers?

The Colts have only covered the spread twice in their last seven road games. Quarterback Andrew Luck has returned from a kidney laceration that sidelined him for most of the 2015 season, but he has not performed with the same consistency as he did before his injury. He has some terrific drives, but then he misses some throws that look wide open. The defense has also played inconsistently, particularly in the secondary. If Rodgers can hit some of those open looks down the field, he should be able to lead the Packers to a relatively easy victory.

My Betting Pick and Final Score Prediction

I miss the Andrew Luck from before his injury. He looked like he was leading the Colts to a point where they would slug it out with New England for supremacy in the AFC. Since his injury, though, he shows very little of that promise. This week I like the Packers to take it to the Colts and win, 34-17.
