Dallas at Philadelphia Week 17 Betting Pick & Prediction

When you see this line (Eagles -2.5) you might be tempted to look at the injury report for names like Ezekiel Elliott or Dak Prescott, the rookie tailback-quarterback tandem that has taken the NFL by storm so far this season. But no, the factor in that line isn’t in the training room, it’s on the calendar, as we enter Week 17 with the Cowboys having locked up home field advantage through the NFC playoffs as the #1 seed, sitting at 13-2. While Jerry Jones has said that Tony Romo won’t see the field as quarterback, it’s hard to believe that Prescott will be exposed to the possibility of injury by playing the whole game. The Cowboys dealt the Detroit Lions a 42-21 whipping on Monday Night Football — but the Eagles (6-9) came in with an impressive win of their own, knocking off the New York Giants a week ago Thursday, 24-19. The two teams met earlier this year, and Dallas took a 29-23 overtime win down in the Lone Star State. Take a look at our NFL odds for Week 17 and the NFL postseason.

Dallas at Philadelphia Week 17 Betting Pick & Prediction

When: Sunday, January 1, 2017, 1:00pm ET
Where: Lincoln Financial Field, Philadelphia
Radio: Dallas / Philadelphia
Live Stream: NFL Live
NFL Odds: Philadelphia (-2.5), O/U 43.5

Why should you bet on the Cowboys?

The Cowboys showed a lot of new looks on offense in their win over Detroit, as Prescott and Elliott dazzled — along with Dez Bryant, who caught two touchdown passes, including one on an amazing one-handed grab while taking some pass interference along the way, and threw another one on a trick play — and even tried to attend this week’s quarterbacks meeting. The Cowboys and Lions went into the half knotted at 21, but a chippy speech from linebacker Sean Lee in the locker room motivated the defense to come out and shut down a talented Lion offense. While I do expect to see a lot of Darren McFadden running the ball instead of Elliott, and I also expect that Prescott will come off the field at some point, either for Romo or for Mark Sanchez, but given the strength of the offensive line and the Cowboys’ offensive system, I don’t expect much of a letdown.

Why should you put your money on the Eagles?

The Eagles opened 3-0 and then have gone 3-9 in the twelve games since, as Carson Wentz’s rookie campaign has not been nearly as successful as Prescott’s. The Birds did snap a five-game slide against the Giants at home last week, as Wentz went 13 for 24 for 152 yards and a touchdown (with a pick). The key for Philadelphia last week was the defense, as Malcolm Jenkins earned Defensive Player of the Week kudos for his two interceptions, including a pick-six. Without that defensive score, the Giants would have prevailed despite Eli Manning’s three interceptions. If you like the Eagles in this one, you think that Philadelphia’s desire for an upset will be stronger than the desire of the Cowboys’ reserves to pick up a win to finish a 14-2 season.

Betting Pick and Final Score Prediction

Dallas coach Jason Garrett just doesn’t seem the type to let his foot off the gas in Week 17, given his commitment to consistency and discipline. I see Prescott playing the first half and getting the Cowboys out to a solid lead, and then the reserves keeping things in line after the intermission. I predict a final score of Dallas 24, Philadelphia 20.
