NFL Conference Round Over/Under Picks

Posted by Derrick Harper on January 18, 2019 in

Both of the NFL Conference Round games are quite interesting as far as the betting lines are concerned, but perhaps one of the most popular and easiest ways to bet on an NFL game is to bet on the over/under. Let’s take a closer look at the current line for each game and how I’d bet the over/under line on each. Weather, or lack thereof in the case of the game in New Orleans, will be a huge factor in each game.

NFL Conference Round Over/Under Picks

Los Angeles Rams at New Orleans Saints

The over/under right now is set at 57 points for this contest. I think the play here is to take the over. The game will be in a dome, so weather will not be a factor. The conditions couldn’t be better. We’re talking climate controlled, 72 degrees, windless, snowless, rainless conditions.

Those conditions are perfect for kickers, but also dry, short, consistent, turf, is conducive for racing receivers, improved quarterback footing, and making explosive cuts when athletes are in space. All of those things, combined with two of the most dynamic and exhilarating offenses in the league today, means we likely will see plenty of drives that end in points.

These two teams can certainly produce some fireworks. From Brandin Cooks to Michael Thomas to Alvin Kamara, Cooper Kupp and Robert Woods, both teams feature plenty of athletes capable of taking over the stat sheet. I’ll definitely take these two to score over 57 points combined. I’ll even predict the final score. Take the Saints at home to win by a score of 34 – 27.

New England Patriots at Kansas City Chiefs

The over/under right now is set at 55.5 points for this contest. If you act soon, you can lock the under. Kansas City weather looks gnarly for game time, meaning, dropped passes, slowed traction, lack of availability of footing for receivers and time for slow developing combination routes.

The Chiefs are favorites to win at the NFL Conference Round.

The ground will likely be a mess, the winds screaming, and of course, the fans causing all the more noise to distract from play calling or audibles from being, well, audible. I think the line will be lower and lower as the weather becomes more and more of a threat to the game.

Getting in your under pick now could be the smart move for the game. I think the Patriots rely on their short passing game, which will be slowed by poor weather. The Chiefs rely on long, dynamic, drawn-out improvisation from their quarterback, which will also likely be hampered by bad weather.

Their running game is mediocre at best and that is the smart play when the weather gets nasty. Bottom line, the weather will keep both teams from the end zone. If snow is in the forecast, I don’t see how either of these teams could reach more than 25 points, let alone both of them.

Have a great NFL Conference Round weekend!
