Colts vs Steelers NFL Betting Game Preview (Dec. 6, 2015)

Written by on December 4, 2015

The Sunday night NFL betting tilt features the Indianapolis Colts visiting the Pittsburgh Steelers. These two teams, both 6-5, are fighting for their playoff lives. The Steelers are hoping to stay in the hunt for a wild-card position, while the Colts would likely have to win the AFC South in order to get a playoff berth. The Steelers had won two straight until they fell in Seattle, 39-30, a week ago, going in as three-point underdogs. However, the Steelers are 9-1 in their last 10 home games against Indianapolis (7-3 against the spread).

Betting on the Steelers

The Steelers are favored by six to win. Can they do it? The key is Ben Roethlisberger. It turned out that he didn’t suffer a concussion against Seattle, but before he self-reported symptoms and took himself out of the game, had thrown for 456 yards and a score. Markus Wheaton had picked up 201 yards of his own on just nine catches, with a touchdown. While Landry Jones is a serviceable backup, he is no Big Ben. The Steelers have yet to clarify whether Roethlisberger will be starting. The Steelers do have a solid running game and defense, particularly at home. The Colts are just #24 in running defense, permitting 115 yards per game, so look for the Steelers to run rampant.

Betting on the Colts

The Colts have played well with backup Matt Hasselbeck running the offense, playing in place of Andrew Luck, who is rehabbing from a shoulder injury. Hasselbeck has thrown seven touchdowns against just two picks. The Colts must find that same defensive gear they had last week as they throttled the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 25-12. In the first half, the Bucs could only score their 12 points – and were held off the board in the second half. The Colts will play against the Steelers.

What Should You Consider Before Placing Your Bets?

The Colts are 2-12 straight up in their last 14 meetings with Pittsburgh. In their last seven December games, the Steelers are 7-0 straight up and against the spread. Last year, the Steelers destroyed the Colts, 51-34 at Heinz Field, and Luck was the quarterback then. The Steelers are the toughest foe Hasselbeck will have faced so far this year. The Steelers will cover the spread and roll in any event, so look for Hasselbeck to struggle a bit. I like the Steelers to win and cover here.
