Indianapolis at Miami NFL Betting Lines & Preview

Posted by Aaron . on December 25, 2015 in

One of this Sunday’s high noon games features the Indianapolis Colts (6-8) heading south to face the Miami Dolphins (5-9). The Colts are in a must-win situation this week and next week if they want to carry away the AFC South title. The Colts have won four of the last five meetings between the two straight up, and the visiting team has gone 5-1 against the spread in the series’ last six meetings. The Colts are favored by 2.5 points, with an over/under total at 44 points. Click here for NFL betting lines.

Why should you choose the Colts (-2.5)?

If the Colts lose and the Texans win, the Colts are done as far as playoff hopes. This motivation is the biggest argument for the team having something to play for. The Dolphins have no way into the playoffs, so it’s hard to argue that they have any motivation at all. The Dolphins have not covered the spread in five weeks, indicating that their level of effort for interim head coach Dan Campbell has evaporated. Last week, the Dolphins lost at San Diego, 30-14, in a game where they were one-point underdogs, a sign that they were ready to lie down for the rest of the season.

Why should you take Miami (+2.5)?

Miami finishes with two home games, with Week 17 bringing the Patriots to town. The Colts have lost three in a row (straight up and against the spread), as teams are starting to expose backup quarterback Matt Hasselbeck’s weaknesses. The Colts may not be any more motivated than the Dolphins are, even though they are mathematically still in the playoff hunt.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

Given the fact that you have two teams here that may well have quit on their season, this may be quite frankly a game to stay away from. Teams that are not motivated to play can end up leading to all sorts of outcomes. I do like the Colts simply because having the playoff possibility should motivate them a little bit. I’m picking them to win, 27-17, and to cover.
