Cincinnati at Cleveland Week 14 Betting Pick & Prediction

Posted by Peter Boysen on December 8, 2016 in

The Cincinnati Bengals (4-7- 1) bring their extremely fragile playoff hopes to Cleveland (0-12) for an AFC North matchup with the Browns. Cincinnati won the first matchup of the season, back in October, by a 31-17 score, as Jeremy Hill galloped for 168 yards on only nine attempts, and Andy Dalton threw a pair of touchdown passes. Cleveland had two rookies at quarterback, in Cody Kessler and Kevin Hogan, and they threw a pair of interceptions. The Browns come off a bye this week, while the Bengals come off a 29-14 thumping of the Philadelphia Eagles last week. Take a look at all of our NFL lines for this weekend’s games.

NFL Odds: Cincinnati (-5.5), O/U 43

Why should you bet on the Bengals?

The Bengals looked like they were headed into a real ditch, having dropped three straight since they beat the Browns on October 23. Then they hosted the Philadelphia Eagles and picked off three passes. Andy Dalton threw a pair of touchdown passes in a 23 for 31 performance that yielded 332 yards. With star wideout A.J. Green (hamstring) still on the shelf, Brandon LaFell (5 catches, 95 yards, 1 TD) and Tyler Boyd (4 catches, 66 yards) had to step up, as did tight end Tyler Eifert. Their issues tend to come on the defensive side, where they permit almost 400 yards per game. Given the issues the Browns have on offense, though, the Bengals will have some room for error on Sunday.

Why should you put your money on the Browns?

The return of Robert Griffin III has some Browns fans excited…and some fans shaking their heads. He returns from a shoulder injury that he suffered in Week 1, when he was moving the Cleveland offense fairly well against Philadelphia. He is more mobile than Josh McCown, who gave up a sack-fumble to Jason Pierre-Paul against the New York Giants in their last week. Wideout Terrelle Pryor is one of the few Browns having a stellar season, and tailback Isaiah Crowell could have one of his standout weeks. If you’re betting on the Browns, you likely think that they will catch the Bengals napping on defense while Dalton will fall into one of his funks when Cincinnati has the ball.

Betting Pick and Final Score Prediction

I am rooting for RGIII to make the best of his comeback in Cleveland, but I don’t see them hanging with the Bengals on Sunday. I predict a final score of Cincinnati 27, Cleveland 16.
