The AFC has always been known as a conference with a lot of traditional rivalries. This year is no different, as many of the big rivals will also be playoff contenders. When these teams are in playoff contention and a lot more is riding on the games, we see the best come out of both teams. Let’s take a look at some of the top rivalries in the AFC for the 2019 NFL Betting action.

Biggest AFC Rivalry Games in the 2019 NFL Calendar

Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Cleveland Browns

Believe it or not, the Browns are for real this year! Expectations are high this year in Cleveland. The Browns are legitimate contenders to win the AFC North this season. With the emergence of Baker Mayfield, and an arsenal of offensive weapons led by Odell Beckham Jr., and an improved defense, the Browns are back!

The Pittsburgh Steelers have been the class of the AFC North over the last few years. Although the Steelers lost Antonio Brown, they should still be a top contender for the North crown. Ben Roethlisberger is still at the helm, and he will have plenty of offensive weapons. The defense improved at the end of last year, and the Steelers made some key offseason additions.

Cleveland has a pure hatred for Pittsburgh, and the Browns would love nothing more than to take over the division. When these two teams meet in Weeks 11 & 13, playoff spots should be on the line, so these games will be hotly contested.

Kansas City Chiefs vs. Los Angeles Chargers

The Chiefs have defeated the Chargers nine of the last ten times they’ve played. San Diego came back from a 14 point deficit late in the game to defeat the Chiefs in Week 15 of the 2018 season. This year, these two teams will be fighting for the AFC West crown, so these rivalry games will be meaningful. These two will meet in Week 11 (in Mexico) and Week 17.

The Week 17 game could have huge playoff implications. With Phillip Rivers nearing the end of his career, these games could be huge for not only the AFC West but in the whole scheme of the AFC playoff picture. Look for a lot of points to be scored in these two highly contested games.

New England Patriots vs. Kansas City Chiefs

This is the old guard vs. new guard. The Patriots have been the top team over the last few years in the AFC. The Chiefs are looking to become what the Patriots are. Tom Brady has been at the top of the quarterback mountain, and now Patrick Mahomes is looking to knock him off of the mountain.

These two teams met twice last year, with the second matchup coming in the AFC title game, which was won by New England in overtime. Kansas City had numerous chances to win the game, but they just couldn’t get through New England.  This season, they’ll meet again, as the Chiefs will travel to Foxboro in Week 14.

This game could have huge playoff implications riding on the outcome. These two could very well be fighting for the #1 seed in the AFC Playoffs. With these two teams being looked at as the top two teams in the AFC, this is sure to be a fun rivalry game.
