NFL Betting: Week 1 Best Under and Over Picks for the 2021-22 Season

Written by on June 22, 2021

In a little over a month, NFL players will report to training camps across the country to prepare for the upcoming season. It’s the time of year when football fans really start to get excited, and bettors start to think about where to best spend their money in the coming months. It all, of course, starts with Week 1 of the season. There are some really big games on tap, and while a season is not won and lost in the opening week, there are a few games where teams are going to have an opportunity to set the tone by getting a win over a potential Super Bowl challenger. For this piece, we are setting wins and losses aside and looking at a few games that might be worth a look when playing the O/U in Week 1. Let’s get right to it so you can wager against their NFL odds.

Best NFL O/U Picks for Week 1 to Must Bet On

Dallas Cowboys at Tampa Bay Buccaneers (UNDER 52)

The defending champions will open the season on Thursday night by welcoming in the Dallas Cowboys, who will have Dak Prescott back under center after he missed the majority of last season with a broken ankle. It will be an evening of celebration for the Bucs, as they will see the banner raised in what is likely to be a full house for the first rime in over a year. If you look at the last 5 Week 1 games for each of these teams, you see that Dallas has gone UNDER in 4 of those 5, while the Bucs have seen the OVER hit in 4 of those 5. That makes for a bit of a wash, but it’s head-to-head where things become a little clearer. It is the UNDER that has hit in each of their last 5 meetings.

Jacksonville Jaguars at Houston Texans (UNDER 45 ½)

This is a bit of a strange one in that we have a rookie QB starting his first career game going against a team who does not really know who their starting QB will be. The DeShaun Watson off field situation is quiet at the moment, but between the uncertainty of that and the fact that he has stated he wants out of Houston, we have zero idea who will start. That aside, the trends seem to point to the UNDER being the way to go here. The UNDER has hit in 5 of the last 6 games that the Jaguars have started as a favorite, with the same record for the Texans as an underdog. The last 4 times these teams hooked up in Houston, it was the UNDER that hit.

Cleveland Browns at Kansas City Chiefs (OVER 53)

Since we have gone the defensive route with the first couple of picks here, we thought it would be a good idea to close out with a matchup that has all the makings of a potential shootout. Both of these teams are considered favorites to make the playoffs and potentially make a deep run in the postseason, mostly because of the offensive weapons that they are bringing to the table. There are a lot of trends that point to the OVER here, starting with the Browns being 5-1 O/U in their last 6 games played on grass. As for the Chiefs, each of their last 6 games in Week 1 have gone OVER.
