NFL Betting Projections for 2019 AFC Conference Winners

Posted by Derrick Harper on December 13, 2019 in

With three weeks left in the regular season, it’s time to take a close look at the genuine contenders in each conference. The list appears to be rather short in the AFC, but nothing is set in stone just yet. There is bound to be a surprise or two between now and the AFC Championship Game. Let’s take a look at the NFL betting projections for the top contenders in the AFC.

NFL Betting Projections for 2019 AFC Conference Winners

Baltimore Ravens -110

The pay off might not be that great, but the bet feels like a sound one at the moment. The Ravens have won nine in a row, knocking off the Seahawks, Patriots, Texans, 49ers, and Bills over that time, so they’ve been properly tested this year.

Keep in mind that John Harbaugh is 10-6 in the playoffs and has won a Super Bowl before, making him a coach that’s trustworthy with a team this talented.

Kansas City Chiefs +320

It’s amazing how Lamar Jackson has made people forget about Patrick Mahomes and his magic. Obviously, the running game and the defense are concerns for the Chiefs.

However, Mahomes is averaging over 300 yards passing per game and has 21 touchdown passes to just three interceptions. He nearly carried Kansas City to the Super Bowl last year and he’s capable of leading another deep playoff run.

New England Patriots +325

After back-to-back losses, people are starting to jump off New England’s bandwagon. But is it ever a bad move to bet on Tom Brady in the playoffs? The Patriots are still on pace to win at least 12 games and get a first-round bye, which should help their efforts.

Of course, there are reasons to doubt New England and think this is the beginning of the end for Brady. However, it’s also not impossible for Bill Belichick to make a couple of minor adjustments and get this team back on track before the playoffs start.

Houston Texans +1800

The Texans are far from perfect, which is why they’ve had a couple of embarrassing losses this year, including this past week against the Broncos. On the other hand, Deshaun Watson isn’t far behind Jackson and Mahomes with regard to overall talent. Houston also has the talent around Watson to do serious damage against any defense in the NFL.

Keep in mind the Texans have wins over the Chiefs and Patriots this year, and nearly beat the Saints in Week 1, so there is no doubt that they’re at least capable of beating top teams, making them an intriguing sleeper because they offer a high payout.

Buffalo Bills +2000

It’s still a little unclear how the Bills have made it to 9-4, but they’ve pulled it off. The road to the AFC Championship Game will be long unless they can leapfrog the Patriots and win the AFC East.

However, the Bills run the ball effectively and play good defense, which is a good combination to have in January. If they can get a little more out of Josh Allen, they can go toe-to-toe with any other AFC playoff team.

Tennessee Titans +2000

Is Ryan Tannehill actually going to out-play the likes of Jackson, Mahomes, and Brady in the playoffs? Well, probably not, but he’s been getting plenty of support from his defense and running game. The Titans have a solid defense and their offense has exploded for 31-plus points in four straight games.

They have a ton of momentum, so it’s not impossible to think they can stay on this magic carpet ride all the way to the Super Bowl.
