NFL Betting: Detroit Lions Calendar Odds & Analysis

Written by on June 14, 2021

Every season in the NFL, a dark horse team emerges to make a run that nobody sees coming. It is always fun to try and identify those teams before the season begins, as it can be a profitable venture for those who love to wager on sports. It is perhaps still too early to start picking surprise teams for this coming season, especially since we have yet to see the last of player movements before training camp begins. We will get to all of that in the coming weeks, but for now, we are going to focus on early looks at all the NFL teams, with the Detroit Lions the team we are focusing on in this piece. With that in mind, let’s get right to it so you can plan your bets against their NFL odds.

Detroit Lions Calendar Betting Odds & Analysis for the 2021-22 Season

The Lions in 2020

The Detroit Lions went into the 2020 season with no one really believing that they had a shot at getting anywhere near the playoffs. After all, this is a team that has been in a steady decline for years despite having one of the best QB’s in the game right now. There was always a sense that we were looking at Matthew Stafford’s last season in Detroit in 2020, which indeed proved to be the case.

It ended up being a 5-11 season for the Lions, with just 1 of those wins coming in their own building. It was probably a good thing that there were no fans in attendance to take part in what was a dismal season. The Lions now seem to be committed to a rebuilding effort, which makes you wonder if the 2021 season is going to get any better than what we saw last year.

Odds to Make the Playoffs and Win the Super Bowl

As we mentioned a moment ago, the Lions decided to bring the Matthew Stafford era to a close, shipping him to the LA Rams in exchange for Jared Goff. The Lions now have a younger QB with a ton of upside, but head-to-head comparisons with Stafford might well suggest that they are taking a bit of a chance with Goff. Given that the Lions have a brutal schedule ahead of them in 2021, Goff is going to need to deliver his best if he is to worm his way into the hearts of the Lions faithful. They will start out the season with games against the Ravens and Packers in the opening 3 weeks, so a very good chance that they will be in an early hole. On the question of whether the Lions will make the playoffs in 2021, here is what the bookies say:

YES +600

NO -1000

You do have to wonder what the NFC North is going to look like this season, especially if Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers cannot some to some agreement that would see the MVP take the field in a Packers uniform this season. There are still question marks with the Bears and the Vikings, but even with that, the Lions still look like a team looking at the bottom of the division. It would not be a surprise to see them fail to match their win total from 2020.

It seems ridiculous to mention the Detroit Lions and the Super Bowl in the same breath, and it appears as though the bookies agree, listing them at +12500 to win it all this season.
