Updated NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year Betting Odds

Offensive Rookie of the Year Odds

Five quarterbacks were selected in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft, and all five passers are near the top of the odds.

The ten rookies with the best odds to bring home the 2021 Offensive Rookie of the Year award:

  1. Trevor Lawrence, Jacksonville Jaguars, QB: +200
  2. Trey Lance, San Francisco 49ers, QB: +500
  3. Justin Fields, Chicago Bears, QB: +550
  4. Kyle Pitts, Atlanta Falcons, TE: +600
  5. Najee Harris, Pittsburgh Steelers, RB: +600
  6. Zach Wilson, New York Jets, QB: +750
  7. Ja’Marr Chase, Cincinnati Bengals, WR: +750
  8. Mac Jones, New England Patriots, QB: +800
  9. Devonta Smith, Philadelphia Eagles, WR: +1200
  10. Davis Mills, Houston Texans, QB: +1600

Betting Trends for Offensive Rookie of the Year

Betting on a quarterback is usually the best strategy, with five of the last ten winners being a QB.

Still, that leaves five spots that went to skill-position players, four times a running back, and once a wide receiver.

It’s hard to fully trust a pass-catcher to win Rookie of the Year. Just this past season, Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson had one of the best seasons a rookie could have, and it still wasn’t enough to take home the award. Chargers QB Justin Herbert instead won.

Given these trends, the focus should likely stay with QBs and RBs.

The Top Three

The three players with the highest odds to win Rookie of the Year are Lawrence, Lance, and Fields.

Lawrence was selected first overall by the Jaguars and will immediately start for the team. As the consensus top pick for a few years, Lawrence is understandably the betting favorite at +200.

Lance was selected third overall by San Francisco, who traded up for the rights to the pick. Lance is likely in the best situation, given that the 49ers are just a year removed from a Super Bowl appearance.

Despite the strong team around him, Lance is not the starter as of this writing. It appears it will be an open competition between Jimmy Garoppolo. If Lance wins the job and starts Week 1, he is a strong bet at +500, given the success his team is expected to have.

Justin Fields rounds out the top three, with +550 odds. Like Lance, Fields is not the unquestioned starter, with Bears coach Matt Nagy stating Andy Dalton will begin the year as the starter.

Chicago was 8-8 last season and lost in the Wild Card round. If Fields does win the starting job early and takes the Bears to the next level, it could help with his chances to win the award. If he can add 2-3 wins, his impact is easily quantified when award voting gets underway.

The Final Word

The odds have been relatively steady for this award for a few weeks now. Your best bet is likely one on a player’s impact on their team, along with statistics.

As such, the recommended players to bet on would be Lawrence and Lance. Both seem like they’ll immediately lift their teams and put up big numbers in 2021.
